One day last week some of the hands on the plantation of Mr. T. E. Diggs, having occasion to cross
the river found at the mouth of Jones' creek on the Anson side the carcass of an alligator nine and a half feet
long. The strange visitor by some means had become inextricably entangled in a network of vines near the waters'
edge and thus perished. The wonder is, where he came from and how he got himself in such a snap. By the way, we
have listened for years past to the story of the finding of a live alligator, on Jenny's branch, near Rockingham,
some fifty years ago, which incident is one among the revered traditions of the community. Rockingham Rocket
