BALDWIN / SMITH
June 10, 2002
Seek to determine parents of Ruth BALDWIN born 1797 in North Carolina, perhaps to a Baldwin from Richmond
Co. NC area. She married c1815 in Kentucky to Abijah H. SMITH (1793.VA-1866.IA) implying her parents had removed
there from NC prior to 1815. She then removed to Clay Co. MO for birth of son: Winfry McHenry SMITH in 1825.
She resided Pike Co. IL in 1830, Jo Davies Co IL in 1839, and from 1842 to death in Clayton Co. IA.

DANIEL
May 31, 2002
I am looking for information on the John DANIEL listed as in Richmond County in the 1790 Ancestry.com Federal
Census CD. The information that I am looking for is to prove or disprove this John DANIEL was or was not my
John DANIEL as indicated following. My John was born c 1769 probably in Va. and is known to have lived in the
Cannon County Tn. area from at least 1820 until his death in 1853. Any info that would prove or disprove whether
they were the same person or not, will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

WEBB / HARRIS / TYSON
Do you know where I can find more information on the John L. WEBB listed as a Confederate soldier on the
Richmond County Confederate list at http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncrichmo/confedrich.htm. I think he was my
great grandfather on my father's side. His dates were 1840- 1923. He was the son of Hailey and Sarah WEBB
of Richmond Co. and in 1866 married Martha Jane Tyson HARRIS. She was the daughter of Green D. TYSON and
Nancy Roper TYSON. Her first husband Benjamin HARRIS was killed in the Civil War. Thank You.

WATSON / STEWART / JERNIGAN / GARDNER
Looking for information on Daniel WATSON of Richmond, County, NC. The 1850
Census of Marlboro County, SC shows a Daniel, age 3, living with Coleman
WATSON and Margaret CAMPBELL. The 1860 Census of Wolfpit District, Richmond
County shows him living with his uncle, Daniel William CAMPBELL. I believe
this man was my great grandfather, but I am looking for any records showing
marriage to Margaret STEWART and children named Kenneth Alexander and Alice
WATSON. Kenneth married Kate JERMIGAN and was a conductor on the Seabord RR
out of Hamlet. Alice married a GARDNER and lived in Rockingham. Thanks for
any help. Jim Utley, Fulton, Md.

McCARNE / McAIRN / McARN
The earliest record of my ancestors is in the 1790 census, which records
Daniel McCARNE living in Fayette District, Richmond County, NC. I also have
a copy of this ancestor's last will and testament, dated 1798, in which his
name is spelled "McCAIRN." At some point his sons migrated to Pendleton
District, SC, and were in Madison County, AL, by 1811. Are there any
further records indicating where Daniel McCARNE came from and when he
arrived in Richmond County? Al McCarn, Alexandria, VA

WEBB CEMETERY
I've seen the "Webb Cemetery" on the Richmond County page of USGenWeb and am wondering if this is the
"Meacham-Webb" cemetery (small parcel of land reserved for a cemetery by John Meacham in the 1790's
(who was on 1790 census for your county). I believe he was buried there in 1800 or 1801. Is this the same
cemetery? Thank you. Alta Mitchem Durden May 17, 2002
MCLEAN / COLBY / SMITH / BUSH
I have been looking for John M. MCLEAN for a very long time. I am sending the information that I have. I would
appreciate any information that anyone might run across that might put me on the right track..
John M(erell). MCLEAN, born 24 Dec 1794, Richmond Co., N.C., died 19 Dec 1833 Autauga Co., AL. was my gr., gr.,
grandfather. He married Elizabeth ______ (I have reason to believe that she was a McLean also). I have very
little knowledge of her other than she died before 14 April 1844 in Autauga Co., AL.
I have visited the cemetery where John McLean is buried and according to other obituaries of the family,
Elizabeth is buried there also; however, I could not find her grave marker.
I have a copy of John McLean's Will and it mentioned his wife, Elizabeth, and a daughter, Sarah, that at the
time was married to Dr. James COLBY. John McLean mentioned in his will a brother, Hugh McLean, and a sister
Dorothy McLean, that was residing in North Carolina.
Sarah McLean was born 2 Nov 1815, N.C.. She was married to Dr. Frank COLBY, born 26 Jan 1807, Plainfield, N.H.,
died 6 Jan 1837, Autauga Co., AL. -- They had a son, John Merell Colby that died 1844, 8 yrs., 4 mos. & 12 days.
- That is the reason that I think the "M". in John M. McLean's name might be Merell.
After Dr. James Colby died, Sarah married 14 June 1838 my gr. Grandfather, William Dixon SMITH son of John
Scott SMITH and Sarah BUSH. Dorothy Conway May 10, 2002

the families of John EVERETT and his wife Phebe who were in Carroll Co. by
1830. Have heard two different stories about who their parents could be so
one of them has to be wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

SMITH / GADDIS/GATTIS
I am in search of a woman, in whom we are having trouble finding out when she passed away. We are also looking
the place where she is buried. Her name is was Roxie C. SMITH. She was white and/or Indian decent. Her SSN was
244-82-2340. We know that she married a James GADDIS, or it may be spelled GATTIS. We do know, that from other
family members, that they lived in Richmond County for about 40 Years. Most of the relatives are deceased, and
the information that we are so desperately seeking is of most importance. Some of the remaining family members
states that she passed away on Feb. 15, 1967. Other Family members are saying that she passed away on Feb. 6, 1955.
We do know that information through Court Documentation was never received. Any help you can give regarding
this matter would be greatly appreciated. Since our other resources have expired, we have no where else to look.
We fear that information on her maybe lost forever. She was a grandmother, and a loving woman, in whom we never
got to meet. It is part of our family history, that cannot be closed until, this information is disclosed.
Thank you for any help you can give me on this. Sincerely, Keith Chestnut,

BURT / BOSTICK / ALLRED / BATES / McDANIEL / ARMSTRONG / JONES / TARBUTTON / POWELL
William BURT and wife Isabel came to the Richmond Co. area about 1765 when land records show land purchases
began. The earliest purchases were made when the area was still Anson Co.
It appears William was a loyalist during the Rev. War, as treason charges were made against him in 1782, but
he dies before the trial. He was found guilty anyway, although many others were found "not guilty" in return
for their oath of allegiance. His land was confiscated.
His widow Isabel was the executor of her husband's estate. N. C. records show that William's estate was
plundered by the unruly troops at war's end. Property was taken away including slaves. Years were spend
trying to get the propery returned.
When William died he left his wife and at least 8 children, probably all unmarried at his death. One son,
John BURT, married Elizabeth BOSTICK in 1783. The only other known son, William BURT, married Martha BATES.
A dau., Margaret BURT, married Jonathan ALLRED. Another dau., Ann, married James McDANIEL. Other daughters
married John ARMSTRONG, Vincent JONES, William TARBUTTON and Nathaniel POWELL.
The whole family appears to move to Barnwell Co., S.C. about 1800.
The widow Isabel BURT died there in 1810 and the settlement of her estate there names her sons and all her
sons-in-law.
We would like to hear from anyone with connections or information on this family. We do not know the parents
of William BURT or his wife Isabel. We would also like to learn more about the circumstances of William BURT's
death-was it natural or war related? Dody Anderson

WATKINS / JAMES / COLE / LONG
William WATKINS leaves his stock, some slaves and household furniture to his wife Keziah Watkins until her
death. And states that after her death it is my desire that it may be divided into Five Equal Parts My
daughter Sarah JAMES (one part), Agtha COLE's three children (one part), My daughter Elizabeth COLE (1 part),
My daughter Frances LONG (one part), Alee Watkins, my daughter (one part).
The question here is why was Agtha's part left to the children had she died before William Watkins death in
1789 ? Is there a Watkins researcher with any information about Agtha's children and which of the Coles she
had married? Any information will be appreciated. Joan Clark
