Yesterday, about 6:30 p.m., in Mineral Springs township, this county, Daniel Graham shot and instantly killed Sanday Cole.
Both parties are farmers.
It is rumored that the killing was the result of an old land grudge between the two. Cole who yesterday was drinking very heavily
took his gun and told some members of the family that he was going over to Graham's and kill him or his wife, who was interested
in the land.
Graham, his wife and brother-in-law were sitting on the porch when they saw Cole coming down the road. Noticing that Mr. Cole was
almost drunk, Mr. Graham suggested that his wife and brother-in-law go in the house and maybe Mr. Cole would not stop. This they
did, Mrs. Graham hesitating in the hall. When Cole saw her he drew his gun and she screamed and ran into the dining room. Mr. Cole
kept coming toward the house and when in about fifteen steps, Mr. Graham shot him from his window. Cole turned as if to leave, but
only walked some four or five steps and fell dead.
The witness' evidence was not deemed sufficient for the coroner to release Graham, but it generally believed that he will come out
all right.
Both men have a wife and three or four children.
