The Daniel Douglas and Campbell Families

Daniel Douglas, son of Robt. and Margaret McCutcheon Douglas was born abt. 1735 Glasgow, Lanark, Scot., 
died 1816 Richmond County, No. Carolina Daniel m. Effie McLean. They settled originally in what is 
now the Laurinburg, N.C. area, migrating to Chesterfield Co., S. Carolina, then Richmond County, N.C. 
abt.1784. Their children: Angus Douglas,  born 1759 Scotland, died June 30, 1819 m. 1793 Sarah Curry; 
Donald Douglas, born 1762 died 1812; Christian Douglas, b. abt. 1765 Scotland died 1839. She married 
John Campbell; Catharine Douglas born abt. 1769 married unknown McRae; Mary Douglas, born abt. 1771 
m. unknown McCaskill [May have been Peter McCaskill d. 1827]; Flora Douglas, born Janunary 10, 1781 
Richmond Co., N.C. died September 3, 1850 Neshoba County, Miss.; Margaret Douglas, b. June 3, 1788 
d. Jan 12, 1860, m. John Graham Wilkinson; Duncan Douglas, b. Sept 6, 1790 Richmond Co., N.C., died 
July 27, 1858, Chesterfield County, S.C., m. [1] Margaret McLaurin, [2]  Mary Hancock; Effie Douglas,

John & Christian Campbell of Richmond County, NC

	In 1793 John, James & William Campbell emigrated from Skye, Scotland on the vessel "Scotia" and 
traveled to Richmond County [now Scotland] in N.C. At first they settled near the communities  of 
Laurinburg and Wagram. John Campbell, born 1769 married Christian Douglass, the daughter of Daniel 
Douglass and Effie McLean. In 1793, during the Voyage from Skye Christian gave birth to a son whom 
they named Daniel Douglass Campbell. John and Christian Campbell's four daughters were born in North 
Carolina. The oldest  was Mary, born 1794, married ... McLeod. Mary was the mother of Judge Daniel 
McLeod in Walton County in Florida; Sarah, born abt. 1795, married Hugh McLean. The 1860 Census of 
Walton County, Fla. shows: Hugh McLean 60, b. N.C., Sarah McLean 60, Nancy McLean 28, Abigail McLean 
24, and Christian McLean. 26; Jeanette Campbell was born 1796; Christian, named after her mother and 
was born in August 1797. She married Neill McLennan, Sr. in c.1813. Christian died 1871 in Texas. 
John Campbell died Oct.1808 at the age of 39 and is buried in McGill Cemetery near Wagram. His young 
wife Christain, may have married a McPhail after John's death. (last will and testament of Daniel 
Douglass). John's brother, James continued west with his family to Mississippi. The third brother, 
William Campbell settled in North Carolina. There he had a son, Angus Campbell born in 1805, who 
married Catherine Morrison, the daughter of  Malcom Morrison and Margaret Douglass.

Daniel D. Campbell m. 1828 Nancy Anna McLean, daughter of Daniel K. McLean. It is said that in the 
year 1818 he and Neill McLennan, his brother-in-law, the husband of Christian Campbell, rode out of 
Richmond County, N.C. destined for Pensacola, Fla. Daniel and his mother Christian were granted first 
and second land grants in Walton County, Fla. The 1860 Census of Walton County, Florida shows: Daniel 
D. Campbell 66, b. on the sea, Nancy 52, b. N.C., John L. 27, b. Fla., Floria Ann 23, Sarah 19, Margaret 
16, Jennitha 15, Abigail A. 15, Nancy 11, Issabell 9, William 17, Angus 6, and Eliza 6. Daniel and 
Nancy's son William L. Campbell m. Ellen Marzee Gage and is said to have left Florida for Texas between 
1872 and 1874. William and Ellen Campbell had three daughters: Margaret Elizabeth Campbell, b. Feb. 9, 
1874, Sarah Jeanette Campbell, b. Sept. 12, 1875 and Mary Ellen Campbell, b. Jan. 5, 1876.

Neill McLennan was a son of John McLennan and Catherine McKinnon. By 1839 he was a Texas Ranger and 
living in Bosque Valley, TX. Neill and Christian McLennan had six children: John McLennan, b. abt. 
1814, m. Cora Wilson; Christian McLennan, b. abt. 1815, m. Neill Robinson. Neill R. was killed by 
a horse; Catharine McLennan, b. abt. 1818 m. Lee R. Davis; Neill Jr. McLennan, b. abt. 1820 m. Dorotha 
Snell; Duncan McLennan, born abt. 1830, m. Rebecca Snell; Locklin McLennan, born 1835, Florida d.1860 unm.

Judge Daniel Campbell returned from New Orleans, where he had been to see his son, Mr. G. B. Campbell hoping to 
bring him home, but the physicians thought it best for Mr. Campbell to remain in the infirmary a few days longer. 
We are glad to note Mr. Campbell's wound is healing nicely, though not so rapidly as his friends wish.

DEATH OF MRS. JOHNNIE M'LEOD
She passed away Sunday night at the age of 81 years-will be buried today
	Mrs. Jennie McLeod died Sunday night between eight and nine o'clock, at the hom of her son-in-law, D.D. Douglas, 
with whom she has lived for many years.The deceased had reached the age of eighty-one years, but for several 
	years has been in poor health.
Besides Mr. Douglas, she leaves three grand-children, Clyde, Jennie and Angus Douglas of this place, two brothers, 
Judge Daniel Campbell, of DeFuniak Springs, and Mr. John A. Campbell of Geneva, Alabama, a sister Mrs. C. Harrison, 
of Milton, and many relatives in this place and Walton count, having descended from the Campbells and Morrisons, 
prominent families of Walton county.
	The remains will be buried in the Euchee Valley cemetery, near DeFuniak Springs, this morning at eleven o'clock, 
the funeral being conducted by Rev. R.Q. Baker and Lynn R. Walker, of DeFuniak Springs.

WIDELY KNOWN LADY EXPIRES AT DeFUNIAK
Mrs. Daniel Campbell, who had relatives throught West Florida, Died After Quite an illness.
	Mrs. Daniel Campbell aged 65 years, died at DeFuniak Springs yesterday morning at 8 o'clock, and the funeral will 
take place this afternoon at what is known as the Old Valley cemetery in Walton county near DeFuniak Springs.
	Deceased was the wife of Judge Daniel Campbell, who survives her, and she is also survived by four sons, three 
daughters, three sisters and relatives throughout West Florida, several close kinsmen residing in Pensacola, and 
these local relatives yesterday receivind word of the aged lady's demise shortl after she had died. She was a direct 
descendant of the old Scotch families who many years ago moved to and took up their residences in Walton county.

DAN DOUGLAS
	Dan Douglas, 55 years old, for many years a resident of Pensacola, died yesterday at Westville. He will be buried 
this afternoon at the Euchee Valley cemetery, near DeFuniak. Mr. Douglas is survived by two sons, Clyde and Angus Douglas, 
one daughter Miss Jennie Douglas, six brothers and one sister.

TENTH ANNIVERSARY OF KNOX OBSERVED
Special Services to be Held Today Commemorating Founding of Church

	The tenth anniversary of the organization of the Knox Presbyterian church will be observed in the services at the church 
today.
	Ten year ago the Knox church was organized. It grew out of a mission Sabbath school held in a store room on Stoddard ave. 
it was organized into a church Jan. 8, 1911, by the election of elders and deacons. There were 59 charter members: Mr. and Mrs. 
A.D. Morrison, Miss Kate Morrison, Miss Sallie McLean, Mrs. W.L. Morgan, Angus Douglas, Mrs. James M. Gillis, Grace E. Graham 
(others include surnames Morrison, Calhoun) … …
	A complete history of the church from its beginning as a mission Sabbath School will be read and the names of all charter 
members living in the city will be called. Aafter the history of the church has been read and approved it will be published 
and a copy given to every family of the church.
