Death of Mrs. Effy G. McLean, wife of Mr. Simeon McLean - 1852 Fayetteville Observer [Fayetteville, North Carolina] 13 Apr. 1852 Shared by Myrtle Bridges Dec 22, 2016
Died suddenly, at Cottoge Grove, Richmond county, on the 27th ultimo, Mrs. Effy G. McLean, wife of Mr. Simeon McLean and daughter of Col. John Blue, deceased, aged 24 years and 3 months. Seldom does the rude hand of death seem to be more ruthless. The bright prospects and fond hope of a doating husband are blasted.-One little son, two years of age, and another but a few hours, are left without a mother to nourish and protect them; and being unconscious of their loss, they are more the objects of commiseration. A mother, sister, and brother are made deep mourners. And a large number of relations and acquaintances are made sympathisers by the sudden blight of what the deceased promised to be, both in the domestic circle and in the community in which she lived. But the issues of death being to Him who does all things well; and sore as the bereavement is, those concerned are not let "to sorrow as those who have ho hope." For it was Mrs. McLean's intention, formed deliberately while in health, to united herself to the Church. This fact, in addition to her uniformly upright and moral character, gives us reason to trust that she was invited to the invisible church above; and that although she is now absent from eartly relations and friends, she is "present with the Lord." And among relations and friends that had gone before her to heaven.
