30 March 1818 Richmond County, North Carolina--Will Book 1 page 197

I Francis Cole being in my right mind but sick and low in bodily health and knowing that it is appointed for 
all men once to die do make this my last will and testament and that portion of worldly goods and chattels 
which God in his providence has allotted to me I bequest in following manner But above all I bequeath my body 
to Mother Earth to be buried in a Christian manner and my soul to God that gave it through the intersession of 
His son Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior amen.
   1st I bequeath to my beloved son John Cole the tract of land whereon Alexander Oliver now lives called 
Watkins Tract also my Negro boy called Boston. One cow and heifer and also the Snead tract to be equally 
divided between John and Francis my youngest son.
   2nd I bequeath to my son Francis my Snead tract whereon I and family now live and an equal division with 
John in the Snead tract, also to Francis my Negro girl Phoebe and her increase after his mother's death also 
the little mare and one cow and two yearlings.
   I bequeath to my little grandaughter Betsey, Aggie's daughter the little crippled heifer and calf.
   I bequeath to my dearly beloved wife all the balance of my property, goods and chattels  (?) during her 
natural life.
   I bequeath to my son-in-law Alexander Oliver the money I lent him that is already in his hands.
   John Stricklin and his wife Patsy, Henry Watkins and his wife Rachel both my dearly beloved daughters and 
sons-in-laws I have already given them what I allotted for them.
   I bequeath to my sons John and Francis Cole the fish traps.
   I also wish that my trusty and beloved friend Israel Watkins, my son John Cole and my wife Elizabeth do 
and will faithfully execute this my last will and testament.
