1. JAMES P2 SMITH (BURN1) was born 1803 in Richmond County, North Carolina, and died Aft. 1880.
He married LAMELIA, daughter of UNKNOWN and UNKNOWN. She was born May 1814 in North Carolina, and
died Aft. 1900 in probably Scotland County, North Carolina.
Notes for JAMES P SMITH:
Malcom B and Arthur was too old to be the sons of wife Lamelia. They are listed with them in the
1850 census. Could be sons from another wife OR related another way and not sons.

Notes for LAMELIA:
Lemelia was last seen in the 1900 census of Scotland County, NC with her oldest daughter Elizabeth Wright.
She was in her 80's. The census states she was born in NC, but both parents were from Scotland
( country not the county ).

and SARAH "SALLIE". He was born 1841 in Beaufort County, North Carolina, and died 1893 in Lumbeton,
Robeson County, North Carolina.
Notes for APPLETON E SQUYARS:
Appleton enlisted at the age of 20 in the war between the States. He was wounded at the battle of
Seven Pines, Virginia on 31 May 1862. He was wounded again at Fredericksburg, Virginia, 13 December 1862
and captured again at Mechanicsville, Virginia, 30 May 1864, and confined at Point Lookout, Maryland,
until transferred to Elmira, New York, 8 July 1864. Paroled at Elmira on 11 October 1864 and transferred
to Venus Point, Savannah River, Georgia, where he was received 15 Nov 1864 for exchange. Captured at
Petersburg, Virginia 3 April 1865, and confined at Hart's Island, New York Harbor, until released June
19-20 1865 after taking the Oath of Allegiance.
