Miss Margaret Shaw who died recently was perhaps the oldest person in Robeson county. She was born in Cumberland County January 1st, 1803. Though she had passed the 100th milestone in life's journey, she retained her mental faculties unimpaired till the last moments of her life. The longevity of people living in middle North Carolina is remarkable. John McNeill is living within a few miles of Red Springs at the age of 96 years and in good physical and mental health. Fred Hardin lived to be 105 years. He was born on July 4th, 1776. A colored man named Tom Shaw according to a bill of sale in 1776 is described as "a boy of 14 years." He was sold in that year to John McPherson a noted Scotch Tory, and accompanied his master to the Moore's Creek battle. He died in December 1872 at the residence of Daniel McGugan in Lumber Bridge township. ...
