GEORGE C. McARN KILLED BY FREIGHT TRAIN IN FLORIDA (Maxton Scottish Chief) Published February 16, 1914 Robesonian The news of the tracic death of Mr. George C. McArn of Bunnell, Florida, a native of near Maxton, cousin of our townsman Mr. A.H. Currie, caused great shock to his many friends here. It seems that he was crossing the railroad from his place of business to his residence for dinner, Friday, January 30th. He crossed by a freight train on one track and stepped onto the main traack just in front of the fast moving passenger train which was passing. It was raining heavily and the umbrella prevented his noticing the approaching train. He was knocked off and fatally injured. He was taken to St. Augustine for treatment at a hospital, but died before his arrival. The remains were interred in that city. Deceased was a son of Mrs. Ann B. McArn of Rowland and was born near Maxton about 1870. He married about 1907 SC lady in Georgia and has made his home in Florida for several years. His mother and brother, Mr. John H. McArn were summonded by wire and were at the funeral. Deceased is also survived by three sisters, Mesdames D.D. McLaurin, of Rowland; Bruce Boykin of Tarboro and Miss Cattie McArn, of Rowland, for whom with the bereaved mother and brother, wife and child much sympathy is expressed. George C. McArn buried Evergreen Cemetery, St Augustine, St. Johns Co., FL
