A PORTRAIT OF THE CELEBRATED FLORA MACDONALD Fayetteville Observer (Fayetteville, North Carolina), Wednesday, November 15, 1837 Contact: Myrtle Bridges April 18, 2016
A fine copy of a portrait of the celebrated Flora MacDonald (whose efforts to aid the escape of Prince Charles Edward in his miserable wanderings in the Western Islands invested her name and history with a charm that still exists) has been hung up in our town-hall, being presented to the magistrates and council by a native of this town, Mr. Fraser, Madras. It appears to be a copy from the original by Ramsay (son of the poet,) of which an excellent engraving will be found in the Johnsonia, lately published by Mr. Murray. She appears to have been of a dark complexion, with homely intelligent features, having a strongly-marked national or Celtic expression. Inverness Courier.
