Ambrose Mann Gurley is a different story.  He is found in the 1900 census of Greenville County, South Carolina, as a 
single man, boarding in a house. 
After that I cannot find him either in the census or elsewhere.  I did not find him in the WWI draft registration.  
It appears that he died before the draft and maybe before the 1910 census.  I only did a cursory check of 1910.

and Mary because he was born two months or so before they married.  Well, checking his death certificate on familysearch.org, 
his parents are given as Joseph Gurley and Mary Robinson. 

It's always interesting to see that these people we see on the old records are human.  His grave marker is pictured on

Parker and Margaret Robinson; Margaret is the sister of James Madison Robinson.  Apparently L.E.  (mentioned in your book 
in the estate settlement) did not like his middle name.  He registered for the draft as Lucian Edward Gurley.  He was born
