THE WILMOT ERNEST BROWN FAMILY

Wilmot Ernest & Elizabeth G. Turnage Brown

Wilmot Ernest was born 19 March 1899 in Louisburg, NC and died on 20 April 1977 in Richmond 
County, NC.  He was the son of George Washington Brown and Matilda Foster of Louisburg, NC.  
On 11 December 1920 in Greenville, NC.  He married Elizabeth Gertrude Turnage, daughter of 
John William Turnage and his wife Emma Eliza Briley of Pitt County, NC.  Elizabeth was born 
23 October 1898 In Greenville, NC and died 27 May 1970 in Richmond County, NC.  The Browns 
are buried in Richmond Memorial Park in Rockingham, N. C.

Elizabeth Turnage was a telephone operator in Greenville, NC when she first met her future 
husband by telephone. They exchanged photos and later met and married in Greenville, N. C.  
They spent their honeymoon in Miami, Florida traveling there by train since Wilmot worked 
for the Seaboard Airline Railroad.  They settled in Hamlet, first renting a room from the 
Keels who lived on Spring Street.  Wilmot worked as a clerk for the railroad in Hamlet.  He 
retired after forty years of service receiving one of the last seaboard airline railway pins.  
Wilmot was very active in the first Baptist church of Hamlet.  He had a quick wit and loved 
to fish.  The children of this union:

1.	Elizabeth Gertrude Brown who married the late John Hardie Tilghman.

2.	Wilmot Ernest Brown, Jr. 
3.	Thomas Armstrong Brown, Sr.

4.	Emily Lois Brown was born 17 January 1930 and died 17 August 2001 after a valiant struggle 
with cancer. She married William M Pearce 2 October 1953. She was a private piano instructor.  
Lois was organist and choir director for the first united Methodist church in Hamlet at the time 
of her death.  They have four living children.

5.	Helen Patricia Brown married Stacy Floyd Gibson, Sr.
They had two children:
a.	Susan Patricia Gibson had two children:
1.	Andrea Elizabeth Kirkley who married on 25 May 2003 James Joseph Lenahan.  The newest 
additions to the brown family are their twin daughters born 30 June 2004:

B.	 Sarah Ann Lenahan
2.	Stephanie Leigh Kirkley Rohrback has
One son Benjamin Andrew Rohrback who Was born 26 September 2003.		

b.	Stacy Floyd Gibson, Jr. was born august 4. 1956.

Floyd died 18 August 1993 in Charlotte, NC at the age of 37.  He had congenital heart problems, 
which resulted in several heart operations thru the years.  He enjoyed golf and played golf 
during his time at Richmond Senior High School where he graduated in 1975.  He had a loyal 
group of friends in Hamlet that were his childhood playmates as well as fishing/hunting buddies 
of later years.  

He married Penni L Cline on 25 April 1987 at Eastway Christian church in Charlotte.  He was 
Superintendent of the South golf course at Carmel Country Club in Charlotte at the time of 
his death.  He had worked there for 12 years. His only child, James Christopher Gibson was 
born 2 January 1991.
