Tyrrell County Court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions
July Session 1804
Ordered that administration be granted to Sarah Alexander widdow of William Alexander deceased on said deceased's estate and hath given bond in the sum of one thousand pounds Major Jesse Alexander & John Wynne securities.
Said Sarah Alexander returned on oath the inventory of the said deceased's estate amount 89 pounds & 2 shillings.
October Session 1805
Ordered that Jesse Alexander be appointed guardian to the orphans of Wm. Alexander for the purpose of seeing the land run off and returned to next court.
October Session 1815,
Ordered that Samuell Spruill Esqr. Danl. Sawyer and Leml. Basnight be appointed to audite and settle the acounts of Jno. Alexander of Henry in rite of his wife administrator of William Alexander deceased and make return to next court.
Ordered that John Alexander of Henry be administrator of William Alexander deceased in ? of his wife have leave to sell the perishable estate of said and make returns to next court.
Ordered that Col. Jesse Alexander be appointed guardian protem to the orphans of William Alexander deceased, Silvy, Gilbert, William and Sarah Alexander.
Ordered that Samuell Spruill Esq. Danl. Sawyer and Leml. Basnight be appointed to divide the estate of William Alexander deceased amongst his lawfull heirs and make returns to next court.
January Session 1816
The petition of John Alexander was read in open court for the setting apart & alotting to him his part the negroes belonging to him in rite of his wife Sarah Alexander deceased which were of the estate of Wm. Alexander deceased, whereupon Jesse Alexander Esqr. guardian of the orphans of said Wm. Alexander deceased came into open court and accepted the service of said petition, ordered that Samuell Spruill Leml. Basnight Daniel Sawyer Thomas Leigh and William Applegate be appointed to make division according to the prayer of the petition and make returns to next court.
Account of sale of the estate of William Alexander deceased was returned into court by Major Jno. Alexander filed.
The audite accounts of the estate of the above deceased was returned into court by Henry Alexander Junr. & ordered to be recorded.
Ordered that Major John Alexander have leave of administration on his deceased wife Sarah Alexander's estate and has entered into bond agreeable to law and gives for his security Colo. Danl. Sawyer and Leml. Basnight.
April Session 1816
A division of the estate of William Alexander deceased so far regards the negroes of said deceased, that part which relates to John Alexander in rite of his wife Sally Alexander deceased was entitled was returned in open court.

Ordered that Hezekiah Alexander be appointed guardian to Gilbert William & Sally Alexander orphans of William Alexander deceased entered into bond in the sum of five thousand dollars Robert Pledger & Joseph McCleese securities.

January Session 1817
Ordered that Samuel Spruill Daniel Sawyer & Thomas Leigh be appointed to audite & settle the estate of William Alexander with John Alexander the administrator & make return to next term.
April Session 1817
Ordered that Richard Davis Esqr. be appointed guardian to Gilbert William & Sarah Alexander orphans of William Alexander deceased & has entered into bond in the sum of 8000 dollars Jesse Alexander & Joseph McClease security.
Ordered that Thomas Leigh Esqr. Daniel Sawyer & Henry Alexander Junr. & Asa Smith & William Combs with the surveyor divide the lands of William Alexander deceased among the legal representatives & make return to next term. Richd. Davis present guardian accepts the former petition for the division.

April Session 1819
Ordered that Selby Patrick Henry Alexander Ava Smith John Midyett & John Alexander Capn. or any three of them be appointed to audite & settle the accounts between Joseph McCleese administrator of Gilbert Alexander deceased & Richd. Davis guardian to the heirs of Wm. Alexander deceased & make report to next term.
October Session 1819
Richd. Davis relinquished his guardianship to William Alexander orphan of William Alexander deceased ordered that Thomas Leigh be appointed guardian in his room who entered into bond with approved security & that he receive the estate of the orphan out of the hands of the former guardian & account for the same as the law directs.
January Session 1820
Richard Davis appeared in open court and resigned the guardianship of Sarah Alexander.
Joseph McCleese was appointed guardian to Sarah Alexander orphan of William Alexander deceased who entered into bond with approved security ordered that he receive the estate of said orphan into his possession & account for the same as the law directs.
April Session 1820
Thomas Lee returned in open court the division of the negroes belonging to William Alexander deceased and filed.
Thom Lee returned in open court the guardian account of William Alexander orphans & filed.
Account sales of the hire of negroes & rent of land belonging to Sarah Alexander orphan of William Alexander was returned to court proved & filed.
Ordered that Thomas Lee be appointed guardian pendentitia to Sarah Alexander.
October Session 1821
Ordered that James Wood W. B. Hodges & Meirs Truitt be appointed to audite & settle the estate of William Alexander with his administrator & make report to the next term.

Alexander, William, 1804
Petition in October Term 1803 by Richard Roe claiming that he had leased 100 acres from William Alexander on 1 June 1803 for a period of 10 years and had been ejected from the land on 1 Jul 1803 by force of arms before the lease was up by John Doe, which caused great damage and loss to him to the value of 20 pounds. This is followed by a note from John Doe to William Melson saying that he is informed that William is in possession of the land in dispute and that he, John Doe is being sued as the ejector but has no claim to the land. He therefore advises William Melson to appear at October court and be made defendant in this case, otherwise he, John Doe, will suffer judgement and William Melson will be turned out of possession. Melson.
Plat done by surveyor dated 19 Jan 1805. Shows a 300 acre tract of William Melson joined by the tracts of William Alexander and Isaac Alexander, the latter being identified as 50 acres. The tract of William Alexander's heirs has a dotted line showing the disputed boundary.

Administrator's bond dated 24 Jul {year not stated} in the amount of one thousand pounds in which Sarah Alexander is appointed administrator of the estate of William Alexander deceased with Jesse Alexander and John Wynne securities.
Petition January Term 1816 by John Alexander who intermarried with Sarah Alexander relict of William Alexander who, in conjunction with her children, Silvia, Gilbert, William & Sally became entitled to certain negroes belonging formerly to the estate of William Alexander who died intestate leaving the aforesaid Sarah Alexander and her four named children her heirs at law. No division of negroes Julia and her children, Lydia, Jenny, Annis, Harry, ?alem, Pell (?) and children, Stephen, Baily & Doll has yet taken place. Request that the aforesaid children, represented by their guardian, Jesse Alexander, show cause, if any, why division not be granted.

Division of the negroes belonging to the heirs of William Alexander deceased on 15 Feb 1820. Negroes listed are woman Dolly & child ($450), girl Lydia ($350), girl Anis ($250), girl Jenny ($300), boy Stephen ($250) and boy Harry ($200) with total appraisal of $1800. Gilbert Alexander drew Dolly & child & Harry ($650). William Alexander drew Lydia & Stephen ($600). Sally Alexander drew Anis & Jenny ($550). Gilbert Alexander is to pay fifty dollars to Sally Alexander.
Execution dated 6 March 1821 and issued 10 April 1821 in which the goods & chattles of William Alexander in the hands of his guardian Thomas Leigh is assessed two hundred and eighty six dollars and 50 cents which John Roughton recovered against William Alexander for damages and also sixteen pounds and one penny for costs. Mentions levy upon negroes Lidy and Stephen and his wife's right of dower in their house.
