Original Will at N. C. Archives
April 29, 1918
I, Mrs. Alice E. Alexander, of the County and State aforesaid, being of sound mind and disposing memory, but realizing the uncertainty of my earthly existence, do make and declare this to be my last will and testament, to wit:
First: It is my will and desire that my executor hereinafter named shall have my body buried by the dide of my deceased husband, William W. Alexander, and shall have erected at our graves one monument having suitable inscriptions, and I authorize him to expend a sum of money not exceeding two hundred dollars for this purpose. My executor shall also pay the expenses of my burial, and any just debts by me owing at the time of my death out of the first moneys coming into his hands belonging to my estate.
Second. It is also my will and desire that my sister, Mrs. Millie Lee Wiley and my niece, Mrs. Blanche Lee Wentz shall have all of my jewelry and so much of my household and kitchin furniture as they may want, to be selected by them, and to be divided between them as they may desire, and my executor is directed to surrender to them possession of such articles as they may desire, and sell the residue at public or private sale for cash. Should Mrs. Blanche Wentz die before I do, my sister, Mrs. Mollie Lee Wiley shall have the said jewelry, and such articles of household and kitchin furniture as she may desire, and should my said sister also die before I do, then the property bequeathed in this section of my will I give and bequeath to my niece Mrs. Mary Holton and nephew, R. E. Lee, who shall have the same right of selection.
Third. All the rest and residue of my estate, both real and personal, shall be sold by my executor for cash, either at public or private sale, as may be most advantageous to my estate, and the money thus derived, and all other moneys coming into his hands belonging to my estate, shall be applied by him as hereinafter set out.
Fourth. I give and bequeath to my nephew Robert S. Knight, one hundred dollars, to be paid to him by my executor, and should he die before I do, I give and devise the said one hundred dollars to his wife.
Fifth. After paying the costs of administering my estate, any debts by me owing at the time of my death, my burial expenses, and the cost of the monument herein provided for, and the legacy mentioned in the preceding section of this will, I give and bequeath the money remaining in the hands of my executor belonging to my estate to my sister, Mrs. Mollie Lee Wiley, Mrs. Blanche Lee Wentz, my niece, and to my nephews Thomas Ainsley and Charles Joseph Ainsley in the following proportions: To my sister, Mrs. Mollie Lee Wiley, one half; to my niece, Mrs. Blanche Lee Wentz, one fourth; to my nephew, Thomas Ainsley, one eighth; to my nephew, Charles Joseph Ainsley, one eighth, and should my sister, Mrs. Mollie Lee Wiley die before I do, I give and bequeath her share under this section of my will to her children, Mrs. Mary Holton and R. E. Lee.
Sixth. I hereby constitute and appoint my trusty friend S. J. Holloway my lawful executor to all intents and purposes to execute this my last will and testament according to the true intent and meaning thereof.
In witness whereof, I, the said Mrs. Alice E. Alexander, do hereto set my hand and seal, this 29th day of April, 1918.
