January 29, 1796
In the name of God Amen the 29th day of January 1796 - I, Joseph Alexander of the county of Tyrrell planter being of perfect mind and memory thanks be given to almighty God therefore caling unto mind the mortality of my body and knowing it is appointed for all flesh once to die do make and ordain this my last will and testament that is to say principely and first of all I give and recomend my soul into the hand of God that gave it and my body I recomend to the earth to be buried in decent Christian burial at the discretion of my executors nothing doubting but at the general resurection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God and as touching such worldly estate wherewith it has please God to bless me in this life I give demise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form -
Imprimis - I give and bequeath to my beloved son Henry Alexander my plantation whereon I now live with all the lands that now belong to me with one good fether bed and furniture and al my waring apparel
Item - I give & bequeath to my beloved daughter Zilfah McCleas one negro woman named Seile (?) and one good fether bed now in her own possession and further my desire is that all the rest of my estate be equaly divided between my son Henry and my daughter Zilfah at the discretion of my executors -
I also consitute and appoint my beloved son Henry Alexander John McCleas and John Alexander executors of this my last will and testament and I do hereby utterly disalow revoke and disanull all and every other former testaments wills, legius (?) and bequesta and executors by me in any wise before mentione willed and bequeathed ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above written signed sealed and delivered in the presents of

The last will and testament of Joseph Alexander deceased was introduced in open court & proved by the oath of Abner Alexander Esquire ordered to be recorded.
Personally apeared Henry Alexander and John McLease in open court and quallifyed executors to the last will & testament of Joseph Alexander deceased according to due form of law.
