In the name of God amen: This 2d day of September in the year of our Lord on thousand eight hundred & nineteen I Nathan Ansley Jr. of Tyrrell County & State of North Carolina being sick in body but of sound & perfect memory thanks be to God do make constitute ordain & declare this to be my last will & testament in manner & form following revoking & annulling by these presents all & every will or wills by me made either in word or writing & this only is to be taken for my last will & testament & none other - and first of all I recomend my soul to Almighty God that gave it when it may please him to cll & my body to be buried in a Christian like manner by my executors hereafter named & my temporal estate that has pleased God to bestow on me I give & dispose in the following manner Viz.
Item - I give & bequeath unto my well beloved wife Perthena Ansley one negro girl named Mariam to her during her natural life and at her death the said girl & her increase to go to the child she is now pregnant with to the said child & its heirs & assigns forever -- and should that my wife is now pregnant with die before it comes to lawful age the said negro girl Mariam with here increase to descent to my beloved son John Ansley at the death of my wife to him & his heirs & assigns forever --
Also I give & bequeath unto my dearly beloved wife one bed & furniture also her Bible & her chest, Also I lend unto my dear beloved wife the land & plantation that fell to me by the death of my father Nathan Ansley Senr. during her natural life ---
Item - I give & bequeath unto my dear beloved son John Ansley the land and plantation that fell to me by the death of my father after the death of my wife with all the swamp belonging to the same to him & his heirs & assigns forever Also my Bible ---
Item - all the rest of my estate of every kind I leave to be sold at six months credit for the purpose of paying my just debts also the third of the land I bought of Priscilla Ansley I leave to be sold during the term of her natural life & the money arising from the sale with all debts due me to go to pay my just debts and after my debts being settled should there be any money remaining, I give the ballance to my dear wife-
Item - Should my son John Ansley die before he comes of lawful age, the land that I have left him I wish to go to the child my wife is now pregnant with & should said child die before it comes to lawful age I wish the said land to descend to my dear beloved wife to her & her heirs & assigns forever ---
I hereby nominate & appoint my dear beloved wife Perthena Ansley & my beloved friend Enoch Ansley Executrix & Executor of this my last Will & Testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this 2d Septr. 1819

The last will & testament of Nathan Ansley was exhibited & proved in open court by the oath of Dr. James H. Ellis & Peter Wynne two subscribing witnesses thereto at the same time appeared Perthina Ansley one of the executors therein named & qualified agreeable to lawordered that letters testamentary issue thereon with a coppy of the will annexed.
January Session 1820
Mrs. Perthena Ansley executrix to Nathan Ansley deceased returned on oath an inventory & account sales of the estate of said deceased amounting to $955.79 cents & filed.
April Session 1823
Ordered that James Wood John Haughton & Wilson B. Hodges be reappointed to audite & settle the estate of Nathan Ansley deceased & make report to next term.
January Session 1825
Ordered that John Haughton, D. N. Bateman & Wilson B. Hodges be appointed auditors to audite the account between the estate of Nathan Ansley deceased and his executrix & make report to the next term.
April Session 1829
Jos. Arnold guardian of Nathan Ansley's heirs returned the account of the rent of land of 1829.
Ordered that Jos. Arnold renew his guardian bond to Nathan Ansley's heirs.
