In the name of God Amen. I, John Ansley of the state of North Carolina and in the county of Tyrrell, being of sound and disposing mind and memory though feeble in boddy knowing that it is appointed for all men to die and having a desire for to distribute my property among my lawfull representatives do make and ordane this this my last will and testament in manner and form following.

Item I give and bequeath my soul to God who gave it.

Item my will and desire is that my beloved son Asa Ansley should have that part of the land that is known by the name of the Soloman Ansley tract.

Item and my beloved son Noah Ansley to have that part of the land that my father Joseph Ansley purchased of William Tarkinton a part of the tract where Harman Bateman now lives.

Item my will and desire is that my beloved sons Enoch Ansley and William Ansley should have the land and plantation where on I have formerly lived and the dividing line to begin at the road runing the course of the fence and leading to the swamp thence through to the Little Island thence runing round the ilent westerly to Pinner's line and to river giving all that part of the land lying northerly agoining the lands of Asa and Noah Ansley to Enoch Ansley and that part of the land that lies to the southward to William Ansley including the house and garding and that part of the plantation and wood land that lies to the southward of the dividing line. All of the above named lands was given them by there grandfather Joseph Ansley.

Item allso one negro man by the name of Jerry my will and desiar is that he should be hired out untill my yonge son William Ansley comes to the age of twenty one years and then the said negro man Jerry to be sold and all the monys arising from the hire and sale of the said negro man Jerry to be equally devided amongst Asa Noah Enoch and William Ansley which said negro man Jerry was allso given them by there grandfather Joseph Ansley.

Item I give and bequeath unto my beloved sons Asa Noah Enoch and William Ansley fifty acres of swamp and one half of the thrashing meshine that was given unto me by my father but neither of my sons above named shall have any write to sell or dispose of the aforesaid swamp and meshine unless it is to another of their fore brothers.

Item my will and desire that the two cows and the increase that was given to Asa Noah Enoch and William Ansley should be equally divided amongst them which was allso was given them by there grand father.

Item I give and bequeath to my beloved son Enoch Ansley all my carpenters tools of all sorts.

Item I give and bequeath to my four sons Asa Ansley Noah Ansley Enoch Ansley and William Ansley two hundred and fifteen acres of land on Riders Creek and fifty acres juniper swamp being my part of the Long Reach Swamp to them and there heirs forever.

Item I give unto my son Wiliam Ansley one small musket.

Item I give unto my son Enoch Ansley one small gun.

I give unto my son Noah Ansley one desk.

I give unto my son Asa Ansley one folling table & one watch.

Item my will and desire is that the residue of my estate consisting of crop stack and farming tools and one bed to be sold by my executor and equally divided between my wife Zilpha Ansley and all my sons above mentioned after a deduction from the aforesaid Zilpha Ansley part the amount of property that I have heretofore given her consisting of one bed and furniture one sow and piggs one lining wheel one large chest one tea cittl and one loom and my will and desiar is that my executor should school my sons out of the above named property as fur as is necessary.

And I now constitute nominat and appoint Samuel Davenport and David Clayton Esq my executors October the sixth day in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty eight.

The will of Jno Ansly was exhibited in open court and proved by the oaths of Daniel Ansly and G. W. Davenport who swore that he was at the time of signing the same of perfect and sound mind and memory. At the same time appeared David Clayton and qualified executor thereto.

January Term 1829

The will of John Ansly deceased was exhibited in open court and proved by the oaths of Danl. Ansly & George W. Davenport who swore that he was at the time of signing the same of perfect & sound mind & memory; at the same time appeared David Clayton and qualified as executor thereto.

Mrs. Zilpha Ansly widow of Jno. Ansly appeared in open court and dissents from the will of her deceased husband John Ansly.

April Session 1829

David Clayton executor of Jno. Ansly returned an inventory & account of sales of the estate.

Petition for dower in the land of Jno. Ansley deceased
Copy of petition and notice have been served on the executor of John Ansley & his heirs at law by their guardian and the parties so noticed & summoned failing to answer it is ordered and adjudged and decreed the petition of the petitioner be taken pro confesso and that the widow have her dower in the lands described in the petition & that the sheriff summon a jury for the purpose of laying out her dower and that he alot it accordingly and make report. Issued 19 Aug 1829.

October Session 1829

Eph. Mann Sheriff returned into court the dower of Zilpha Ansley widow of Jno. Ansley deceased in the land of her deceased husband & filed.

David Clayton executor of Jno. Ansly returned the account belonging to the estate of said deceased. Also gave in the taxable land 250 acres and 150 acres valued at $975.

April Session 1830

David Clayton the executor of Jno. Ansley returned the account of hire of the negros & rent of the land for the year 1830.

January Sesion 1831

Ordered that Dempsey S. Godfry, David M. Sergent & Jos. Halsey or a majority audite and settle the estate of Jno. Ansly with the executor David Clayton.

April Session 1831

David Clayton returned the audited account of John Ansly due the estate $227.9/100.

Ordered that Asa Ansly be appointed guardian to Noah Enoch & William Ansly orphans of Jno. Ansly.

April Session 1834

Ordered that Asa Ansley renew his guardian bond to William Ansley orphan of Jno. Ansley deceased with ? Davis & Dempsy S. Godfry securities.

Petition for dower at January Term 1829 by Zilphy Ansley in the lands of her deceased husband, John Ansley who was seized and possessed of several tracts of land adjoining each other, all of which lie between Scuppernong River and the plantation of Joseph Ansley at the time of his death beginning at the mouth of Potatoe Choad Run and joining Mary Bateman, Nathan Phelps, the land Joseph Ansley purchased of William Tarkinton, Harman Bateman & Col. Hodges. One tract is called the Ned Ansley place, upon which the said John resided at the time of his death, one is called the Solomon Ansley place joining the Ned Ansley place and one being a part of the Harman Bateman tract. Also one half of a tract of Juniper Swamp given to John & Daniel Ansley by the will of Joseph Ansley. Petitioner further states that just before his death said John conveyed these lands (except the Juniper Swamp) to his father Joseph Ansley with the intent to deprive your petitioner of her dower, notwithstanding the means of purchasing the same were furnished to the said John by the estate gotten by his marriage with this petitioner. Petitioner prays that her dower in said land be allotted by the court. Reverse says that service was accepted by Jos. Halsey guardian ad litem. Prayer of the petition was granted. Ordered that copy and subpoena be issued to the defendants and that Joseph Halsey be approved guardian ad litem to the infant heirs, Asa, Enoch, Noah & William Ansley.

Petition for years allowance at January Term 1829 by Zilphia Ansley widow and relict of John Ansley deceased. John Ansley died leaving a will which she has in due form of law dissented. Petitioner prays her years allowance be layed off from the estate.

Laying off of the years allowance of Zilpha Ansly widow of John Ansley on 27 Mar 1829 by Jos. Halsey, Z. Tarkenton & D. M. Sargent.

Laying off of the dower of Zilphia Ansley in the lands of her deceased husband John Ansley on 10 Oct 1829 by Ephraim Mann Sheriff and Daniel N. Bateman, William Spruill, Uriah Spruill, Uzziel Spruill, James A. Spruill, Salathiel Spruill, Dempsey S. Godfrey, Ephm. Powers, Jordan Davenport, Charles Davenport, George W. Davenport & James Davenport. She received a third part of the plantation joining Potatoe Choad Run, including the dwelling house and all outbuildings.

Bond dated 25 Apr 1831 in the amount of five hundred dollars appointing Asa Ansley guardian of Noah, Enoch & William Ansley, minor orphans, John Hassell, Robert B. Davis & Zebulon Tarkenton securities.

There are several documents relating to suits by the executor David Clayton against david M. Sargent to recover debts to the estate.

Bond dated 28 Apr 1834 in the amount of one thousand dollars appointing Asa Ansly guardian of William Ansly orphan of John Ansly deceased, Zolah (?) Davis & Demp. S. Godfrey securities.
