Dated 28 August 1751


In the name of God amen, I Thomas Bell of Edenton in Chowan County in the province of North Carolina Mariner, being sick & weak in body but of sound & perfect mind & memory thanks be to Almighty God for the same, and calling to mind the uncertainty of this life, and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make & ordain this my last Will and Testament, in manner & form following. That is to say, first I recommend my soul into the hands of almighty God that gave it, and my body to be buried in a Christian like & decent manner at the discretion of my Executor hereafter named, my will is that after all my just debts and funeral charges are paid, the remainder of my estate be disposed of as follows.

First - I give & bequeath unto my beloved cousins the surviving children of Robert McCree & James Oat, one chest of Blacksmiths tools, which said tools are to be sold of the moneys arising from the sale to be equally divided amongst them, also all the Cattle belonging to me in Tyrrel County to be divided amongst the afsd. children, I also give and bequeath unto Ann Donham two pewter dishes, six pewter plates, six delpho tea cups & saucers, and one tea pot;

Item - I give & bequeath unto Capt. William Mackey two hundred & fifteen acres of land a joyning his own land; provided he give in lieu thereof so much land on the other side the creeks he live on the likeing and satisfaction of my Executors which said land is to be dispossed of to the best advantage, and the money arising therefrom to be equally divided amongst the aforesaid children, lastly my will of pleasures; that all the residue & remainder of my estate both real & personal ___ what kind forever; be divided as afsd.

Lastly I do hereby nominate and appoint my loving brother in law Alexander Stuart and James Waddal, to be Executors of this my last will and testament hereby revoking and making null & void all former & other will or wills & Legacies by me heretofore made given or bequeathed, allowing this and other to be & contain my Last will & Testament; In witness whereof have hereunto set my hand & affixed my seal this twenty eight day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred & fifty one.

Then was the above Will proved in open court by the oath of James Trotter one of the subscribing evidence thereto in ___ form of ____ and at the same time appeared Alexander Stuart and James Waddal and qualified as Executors to said will by taking the oath appointed to be taken by Execution ordered that the Honorable Nathaniel Rose Esq. Secretary of said Province or his deputy have notice that letters Testamentory issue theron as the ____ ____.

Transcriber's Note: This will was included because the land given to Capt. William Mackey appears to be in Tyrrell County in 1751 (currently in Washington County).
