In the name of God amen: The eighteenth day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and sixty nine I Joseph Ballard of Tyrel County in the province of North Carolina being sick and weak in body but of perfect mind and memory do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament principally and first of all I recommend my soul into the hands of God that gave it hoping through the merrits death and passion of our Saviour Jesus Christ to have free pardon and forgiviness of all my sinns and to inheritt everlasting life and my body I commit to the Earth to be decently interd at the discression of my Executors hereafter named and as touching my worldly Estate I give and dispose of the same in the folllowing manner and form.
First - I will that all those debts and duties as I do owe in right or consiance to any person shall be well and truly contented and paid.
Item - I give unto my sone Joseph Ballard five shillings sterling.
Item - I give unto my sone John Ballard one negro man named George.
Item - I give unto my Daughter Elizabeth the wife of Arthur Bordin five shillings sterling.
Item - I give unto my sone Robert Ballard five shilling sterling.
Item - I give unto my grand daughter Ann Ballard daughter of son Robert Ballard one negro boy named Charles to her and her heirs forever.
Item - I give unto my son James Ballard one tract of land containing two hundred acres be the same moore or less it being the land I purchased of Solomon Johnston as will moore fuller appear by the deed for the said land also one negro man named Mingo and two feather beads and furniture.
Item - I give unto my son Silas Ballard my plantation whereon I now live with all the lands thereunto belonging it being three hundred and forty acres being part of a tract of land taken up by Orsburn Jeffers as will appear by the deed I had from Philip Pearce Senr. Also my still one negro man named Tom and one negro woman named Bridgit one negro boy named Simon also my desk and two feather beads and furniture.
Item - I give unto my son Elisha Ballard one negro man named Toney one negro woman named Fanney one negro boy named Jacob one negro boy named Lewis two feather beads and furniture and my case of bottles to him and his heirs forever my desire is that after may death all the remainder of my household furniture not before given shall be equally divided between my two sons Silas and Elisha Ballard I also appoint my two sons John Ballard and Silas Ballard my Executors of this my last Will and Testament In testamoney whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and seal this day and year first mentioned.
