In the name of God Amen. The fiveteenth day of September in ye year of our Lord 1740: I Richard Burtenshall of ye County of Tyrrell in North Carolina Planter being weak of body but of perfect mind and memory that be thands to God therefore calling to mind ye mortality of my body and knowing it is appointed for all men once to Dye do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament it is to say principally and first of all, I give and recommend my soul into the hands of God and for my body I recommend it to ye Earth, to be buried in a Christian like and Decent manner at ye discretion of my executrix nothing doubting but at ye General Resurrection I shall receive ye same again by ye Mighty Power of God & as touching suck worldly Estate werewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life I give devise and dispose of ye same in ye following maner and form.

Imprimis - I constitute make and ordain Margaret my beloved wife my whole and sole executrix of this my Last Will and Testament to dispose of it in maner following

Item - I give to my beloved wife Margaret Burtenshell all and singular my lands mesuages and tenements by her to bee freely passessed and enjoyed during her natural life and then to my grand son Richard Burtenshell Junior to be possessed forever and his heirs.

Item - I give to my daughter Susanna Lofthon one shilling.

Item - I give to my daughter Dorcas Watts one shilling

Item - I give to my daughter Elizabeth West one shilling

Item - I give to my daughter Pricilla Smith shilling.

Item - I give ot my grandson Richard Burtenshall Junior one feather bed.

Item: I give to my beloved wife all my goods rights and credits forever to be possessed and enjoyed, and I do hereby utterly disalow and revoke and disanul all and every other former Testaments Wills and Legacies Requests and Executors by me in any ways before this time named Willed and Bequeathed Ratifying and Confirming this and no other to be my Last Will and Testament In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal ye day and year above written.

These may certifie Margret Burthenshell Widdow Relut of Richard Burthenshell late of the said county deceased came into open court and qualified as executrix to the last will & Testament of her said Husband according to law, which said will was proved at a Court held for the said County on the first Tuesday in September Last by the Oath of Mary Turner Joshua Turner subscribing Evidences thereto as appears by Record of the said Court

Ordered that the Honourable Nathaniel Rice Secretary of the said province have notice thereof that Letters Testamentary issue thereon as the law directs
