In the name of God amen: I, James Basnight of the State of North Carolina Tyrell County being very sick and weak of body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be to God calling to mind the mortality of my body and that it is appointed for all men once to die do make and ordain this my last will and testament that is to say principally and first of all I recommend my soul into the hands of God that gave it and my body. I recommend to the earth to be buried in a decent Christian burial at the discretion of my executors nothing doubting but at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God and as touching such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life, I give demise and dispose in the following manner.

First - I give my beloved son William Basnight one shilling sterling. I give to my daughter Dorcas Crain one shilling sterling. I give to my daughter Rody Twidy one shilling sterling. I give to my son John Basnight sone shilling sterling. I give to my son Nathan Basnight one shilling sterling. I give my daughter Morivian Crane one shilling stering. I give to my son Daves Basnight one shilling sterling a piece of juniper swamp 150 acres more or less to be sold by my executors. I give to my son Wonderful Basnight two stocks of bees.

My will and desire is that my well beloved wife Levirey Basnight have the use of all the remaining part of my estate real and personal during her life time or widowhood after her death amy will and desire is that my son Wonderful Basnight shall have all the negroes and their increase all the remainder of my estate and so appoint my wife Levirey Basnight and my son Wonderful Basnight executors to this my last will and testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twelfth day of February 1810.

October Term 1814

Josiah Hancock came into open court & being duly sworn depositenth that he saw James Basnight sign seal publish & declare this instrument of writing to be his last will & testament & that he was at the time of publishing the same of sound & perfect mind & memory and that he also saw John Alexander sign the same as concerning evidence thereto.

October Session 1814

The last will & testament of James Basnight was proved in open court by the oath of Isaiah Handcock & filed.

Winny Basnight came into open court and quallified as executrix to the last will & testament of James Basnight in due form of law.

Ordered that Winny Basnight executrix of the estate of James Basnight deceased sell the perishable estate of the said deceased & make return to next term.

April Session 1815

Winnifred Basnight executrix of James Basnight deceased returned into court an inventory of said deceaseds estate.
