Tyrrell County Court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions
February Session 1809
Ordered that the Constable produce to the next court the following orphan children which have been presented to the grand jury as follows viz. Elizabeth Bateman & Davis Batman orphans of Simion Batman also Zachariah Alexander and Phoebee Alexander orphans of William Alexander also the orphans of William Batman now not known to the court.
October Session 1812
Ordered that Davis Batman orphan of Simion Batman be bound to Darious Phelps to learn the art & mistery of a house carpenter and be educated to read write and cypher as far as the rule of three.

The 1800 census of Tyrrell County lists a Simeon Bateman.
Tyrrell County marriage bonds show a Simeon Bateman married Sarah Phelps on 7 Oct 1790, John Phelps (son of Godfrey) security.
The will of Godfrey Phelps in 1807 identifies Sara Bateman as a daughter and he also has a son, Godfrey.
