State of N. Carolina: In the name of God amen I Lois Bateman of feeble health but of sound
& disposing mind do make this my last Will & Testament in manner &
form following that is I give and bequeath unto my beloved son B. J.
Spruill all the provisions now on hand consisting of corn fodder pork lard
and bacon two fether beds and all my mahogana chairs two horses Tip &
Pocahuntas my large dining table two side tables & my large looking glass
also all the corn & fodder & every thing else that may be raised on my
farm this present year also I loan unto the said B. J. Spruill the use of
all my negros for the the balance of this year I also give unto the said B.
J. Spruill all the hogs that are now on hand & that may be here first of
January next. I give & bequeath unto my grandson William C. Spruill
one negro boy named Henry- The balance of my property after my debts are
paid I leave to be equally divided between my sons B. J. Spruill &
Saml. B. Spruill I constitute and appoint my sons B. J. Spruill
& Saml. B. Spruill joint exrs. To this my last Will & Testament-
In testimony whereof I hereunto set my hand & seal this the 27th day of

Court of Pleas & Quarter sessions The foregoing paper writing was offered to the court for probate as the last
Will & Testament of Lois Bateman decd by Benja. J. Spruill one
of the executors therein named & upon the testamony of the subscribing
witnesses, Silas Davenport & H. E. Lewis who being duly sworn
in open court testafied that the said Lois Bateman signed & published
the same as her last Will & Testament on the 27th March 1849 that she was at
the time of its execution of sound & disposing mind & memory & that
she executed it without compulsion from any one & that the said paper was
red over to her correctly before the execution of it by her. It is therefore
ordered by the court that the said paper writing be admitted to probate in said
court of the last Will & Testament of Lois Bateman decd & that
the same be recorded.
