Dillin, Alexander, 1844
Bond dated 24 Oct 1844 in the amount of $16,000 appoining Sarah Dillin administrator of the estate of Alexander Dillin deceased, Robt. Wynne & Soloman Hassell securities.
Petition October Term 1844 of Sally Dillin who shows that her husband Alexander Dillin is dead leaving a family of children to support. She prays her year's provision be set off to her.
Petition October Term 1846 by James M. Alexander, James S. Sutton, James R. Dillin & Sally Dillin widow of Alexander Dillin deceased who show that Alexander Dillin died intestate leaving considerable chattel property and two of your petitioners have married his daughters and the said Dillin left 8 children and a widow which makes 9 in number for shares thereof. Petitioners pray the court to appoint commissioners to view and appraise the said property and divide it into 9 equal shares, giving 4 shares to your petitioners and leaving 5 shares all together for the 5 minor children for their support until they come to lawful age. Likewise, petitioners pray an order for the commissioners to examine and settle the accounts of Sally Dillin, administratrix of Alexander Dillin deceased, and divide the surplus, if any, into 9 shares to be distributed as aforesaid. They also pray a guardian be appointed to the 5 minor children.
Bond dated 26 Oct 1846 in the amount of $12,000 appointing Sarah Dillin guardian of Wm. Dillin, Robt. Dillin, Silas Dillin,
Harriet Dillin & Henry Dillin orphans of A. Dillin deceased, James S. Sutton, Asa Etheridge, Daniel Woodley & J. W.

Division of the negros belonging to the estate of Alexander Dillin on 29 Mar 1846 agreeable to a petition filed October Term 1846 by
Saml. Rogers, Benjamin Spruill & So. Hassell:
Sarah Dillin widow draws lot 1, Gilbert $400, Edy $300 & Eliza $275 and pays lot 2 $11.11 and lot 8 $2.78.
Lot 2 is Moses $600, Sarah $175 & Hetty $175 and is in joint stock among the 5 young heirs.
James Dillin draws lot 3 Noah $600 & Maryum $375 and pays lot 6 $11.11 and lot 8 $2.78.
Lot 4 is Jack $600 & Margaret $400, pays lot 9 $36.11 and lot 8 $2.78, and is in joint stock among the 5 young heirs.
Lot 5 is Frederick $450, Comfort $400 & George $175, pays lot 7 $61.11 and lot [blank] $2.78 and is in joint stock
among the 5 young heirs.
Lot 6 is Jane $425 & Amy & child $525, pays lot 6 $11.11 and is in joint stock among the 5 young heirs.
James Sutton draws lot 7 Rose $425, Aaron $250 & Spencer $225 and pays lot 7 $61.11.

James M. Alexander draws lot 9 Mourning & child $525 & Jinny $400 and lot 4 pays lot 9 $36.11.
Audited settlement of Sarah Dillin, administrator of the estate of Alexander Dillin, dated 26 Jan 1847 and audited by Samuel Rogers, Benjamin Spruill & Soloman Hassell. Balance due the estate is $995.56 1/2 which is divided among 9 heirs viz. Sarah Dillin $110.61 1/2, James R. Dillin $110.61 1/2, James M. Alexander 110.61 1/2 and James S. Sutton $110.61 1/2, the remainder of $553.07 1/2 to remain in the hand of Sarah Dillin as guardian for the five young heirs.
Bond dated 22 Jan 1848 in the amount of $10,000 appointing James R. Dillin guardian of William, Silas, Harriet & Henry Dillin, Jas. McClees, S. A. Truitt, B. F. Sikes & J. F. Davenport securities.
Petition January Term 1851 of Wm. Dillin against James R. Dillin guardian. He shows that James R. Dillin was formerly his guardian and that he has now arrived at full age. He prays that the court cause the said Jas. R. Dillen to settle with the said William Dillin and state the account at the next term of court.
Settlement of the account of James R. Dillen with his ward, William Dillen, for 1850 & 1851 on 30 Jul 1851. The ward is due $329.51 1/2.
Petition July Term 1851 of Wm. Dillin who is tenant in common with Robt. Dillin, Silas Dillin, Harriet Dillin & Henry Dillin of certain negro slaves, to wit, Moses, Jack, Frederick, Dave, George, Sarah, Jeny and one child, Amy and two children, Comfort, Aggy, Grace & Hetty. He prays that commissioners be appointed to lay off and allot to each party separately and singly his portion of said slaves.
Petition October Term 1851 of William Dillen, James R. Dillen as administrator of Harriet Dillen and of Robert, Silas & Henry Dillen by their guardian James R. Dillen who are tenants in common of the following slave, to wit, Moses, Jack, Frederick, Dave, George, Sarah, Joney, and child Martha, Amy and two children Martha & Ann, Comfort, Aggy, Grace & Hetty. The said William is entitled to 1/5th part, the said James R. as administrator to 1/5th part and the said Robert, Silas & Henry Dillen to the remaning 3/5ths part. Petitioners pray division so that the said William & James R. may hold their shares in severalty with the remainder to be held in common. They also pray an order to sell the negros alloted to James R. Dillen administrator of Harriet Dillen since it is impossible to divide them among her heirs without a sale.

Guardian account of James R. Dillin for Harriet E. Dillin fro 1849 to 1852. Audited 27 Jan 1852 by Saml. McClees who finds the said Harriet E. Dillin deceased due $178.35.
Petition October Term 1852 by Robert A. Dillen who shows that he is tenant in common with his brothers Silas & Henry Dillen of the following negro slaves, to wit, Jack, George, Dave, Moses, Sarah, Jane, Grace, Hetty, Ann, Comfort & [blank]. The said Silas & Henry are infants of tender years and have for their guardian James Dillen. He shows that he has just arrived at his majority and prays to have his third part of said slaves set apart and allotted to him in severalty. He further shows that the said James Dillen was appointed his guardian and received into his hands a large amount of estate, to wit $10,000. He prays the court will order the accounts of the said James to be referred to some competent person to audit them and make report to the next term.
Division 25 December 1852 of the slaves in the petition of R. A. Dillon vs James Dillon et al. George valued at $400, Grace valued at $650 and Hetty valued at $500 were alloted to the said Robert with a deficiency of $33.33 1/3 assessed against the defendants.
Guardian account of James R. Dillin for Robt. A. Dillin from 1849 through 1852 and audited by Saml. McClees on 25 Jan 1853. The ward is due $664.49.
Petition October Term 1853 by James R. Dillin, guardian to his brothers Silas Dillin & Henry Dillin, who among them own some ten negro slaves, among them negro slave Sarah about 55 years old. The said Silas & Henry have applied to the court to divide said negros but it can't be done properly and equally if the said Sarah is divided with the others. Petitioner prays a court order to sell Sarah.
Petition October Term 1853 by James R. Dillin who complains that he is guardian to Silas Dillen who will shortly be 21 years of age. He desires to settle with said Silas under order of the court. He has an amount of money on hand and prays that to have a settlement a copy of this issue to said Silas by his guardian ad litem.n
Guardian account of James R. Dillin for Silas W. Dillin from 1849 through 1854. Balance due is $316.60. One item of interest is the receipt of $100 from Robert Wynne's executors in 1854.
Bond dated 22 Jan 1855 in the amount of $7,000 appointing James R. Dillin guardian to Henry E. Dillin a minor orphan, James M. Alexander, William Dillin & James S. Sutton securities.
Statement by J. R. Dillin of the account of the hire of negros Jack, Janey and child John belonging to H. E. Dillin heir of Alexander & Sarah Dillin deceased for the year 1857 and dated 24 Jan 1857. Also includes an account of the receipts for board, clothing and schooling for the year 1856.
