Tyrrell County Court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions
April Session 1779
Ann Devenport appeared in open court and prayed admin of the estate of John Devenport deceased granted and gave in security John Swain & Jos. Tarkinton in a bond of 2,000 pounds. Ordered that Mr. Secretary have notice that letters may issue.
Ordered that Ann Devenport admix of Jno. Devenport deceased sell as much of the perishable part of the said estate as shall ay the debts and make return to next court.
July Session 1779
The account of sales of the estate of John Devenport deceased was exhibited into open court by Henry Norman upon oath.
April Session 1782
Ordered that Joseph Tarkington Joseph Phelps Simion Spruill & Joseph Spruill Esqr. divide the estate of John Devenport deceased agreeable to law and make returns to next court.
April Session 1788
Ordered that Col John Warrington be appointed guardian to Ezra Davenport and give bond in 500 pounds Joseph Tarkinton Senr. and Jose Spruill securities.

Davenport, John, 1779
Guardian bond dated 10 Apr 1788 in the sum of five hundred pounds specie wherein John Warrington is appointed guardian to Ezra Davenport a minor orphan with Joseph Spruill and Joseph Tarkenton securities.
Petition for dower submitted January Term 1793 by Ann Davenport widow and relict of John Davenport who died in 1779 or 1780 without leaving a will and his only child was a son, Ezra Davenport. Her husband, John Davenport died seized and possessed of 125 acres on Polecat & Gum Swamps and is further described in a deed of conveyance from Ezra Davenport to Jesse Bateman and is now in the possession of the said Jesse Bateman. The petitioner has not yet had her dower in the said land laid off and is at present destitute of support. She requests that a subpeona issue to Ezra Davenport and Jesse Bateman to show cause, if any, why an order should not be issued to lay off her dower in the said land.
