I Sarah E. Davenport being now weak in body but of sound
and disposing memory, do hereby make the following disposition of my property
Viz:
First - I wish my corn crop my horse buggy and harness, cart, cattle, and all
other property except my negro property to be sold: and after paying my funeral
expenses and all just debtrs, I wish the balance to be divided equally between
my two sisters Nancy Harriss, Polly Davenport. I also wish my two bed,
bedsteads and furniture half dozen wooden chairs, one rocking chair and one
table; sold, and the proceeds of the sale to be divided the beforemention
Nancy Harriss and Polly Davenport, my two chest I wish to give one
to the beforemention Nancy Harriss and the other to my other sister
Polly Davenport -
I wish my old negro woman Nelly to have her freedom after my death. An
I also wish the said old negro Nelly to have out of my estate twenty
barrels of corn and five bushels of wheat, and one hundred and fifty pounds of
pork- There will be money enough found about the house to defray my funeral
expenses- My negroes Maria, Mary, Caroline, Baily, Chlondia, I wish to
give to my two before - mentioned sisters Nancy Hariss and Polly
Davenport - I wish the said negroes to be equally divided between my two
before mentioned sisters Nancy Harriss and Polly Davenport - to be
valued and divided by whatever persons they may select- and I hereb appoint
Thomas M. Harriss the executor of this my last Will and Testatment-
Signed and sealed in the presents of the two witnesses whose names are affixed
below. This 8th day of December 1857.

State of North Carolina Then was the foregoing paper writing offered in open court by Thomas
Harriss the executor therein named and its due and lawful execution as the
last Will and Testatment of Sarah E. Davenport the testatrix named duly
proven by the subscribing witness Jas. L. Hassell and Edward B.
Haughton and ordered by the said Court to be admitted to probate as the last
will and testament of the said Sarah E. Davenport and ordered to be
recorded when the said Thomas Harris was duly qualified as executor
thereof.
