I James H. Ellis being apparenty near the close of life, but of a sound mind and memory do this 27 day of July 1827 make this my last will and testament as follows ---
first - I leave all my estate here both real and personal except my horse to be disposed of by my executor hereafter named at his own discretion at public or private sale and out of the sale to pay all my debts ---
2nd - Should there be sufficent my desire is that my executor should procure and forward to my nephew James Peck a gold watch.
I herby nominate my friend Jos. Hallsey my executor to this my last will and testament and give and bequeath to him my horse Diamede.

The will of James H. Ellis was exhibited in open court & proved by the oath of Jno. T. Wynne who swore he saw Jno. A. Shaw & Thos. Alexander sign the same as witnesses - at which time Jos. Halsey appeared and qualified as executor.
January Session 1828
Jos. Hallsey executor of James H. Ellis returned an inventory and account of sales of the estate of said deceased and filed.

Bail bond dated 7 Jan 1827 for Francis W. Wood to appear in court on the 4th Monday in January and pay the $58.27 he owes to Jos. Halsey administrator of Jas. H. Ellis. Uzziah Spruill is also bound to pay the same amount.
Several other documents dealing with a suit against Francis W. Wood by Jos. Halsey administrator of James H. Ellis for recovery of debt.
