Petition January Term 1833 by Ephraim Mann & Daniel Etheridge of full age and Asa Etheridge, Fanny Etheridge & Sally Etheridge by their guardian and next friend, Jos. Halsey. They show that they are owners in common of a negro woman and four children. Petitioners Ephraim & Daniel are desirous of having division made of said negroes and Jos. Halsey says it is impractical to effect the same without a sale being made. Petitioners pray a sale be ordered by the court.

Petition January Term 1834 by Daniel V/N Etheridge & Asa Etheridge stating that Silas Etheridge died intestate seized and possessed of sundry tracts of land bounded by Major Brickhouse and others, one called the Webster Tract, one called the Charlotte Davenport Tract, one called the Richard Routen Tract and one called the James Snell Tract. He left surviving him, his widow who has since intermarried with one John Alexander & four children, viz. your petitioners Daniel & Asa, & Fanny & Sally. Petitioners further show that they are now of the lawful age of twenty one and are desirous of having a division of said lands so they can get their respective shares. They further show that Fanny & Sally the other children and heirs at law of the said Silas Etheridge are minors within the age of twenty one years and have no guardian. Petitioners pray a guardian ad litem be appointed for Fanny & Sally and that a division of said lands be ordered. Overleaf says Joseph Halsey appointed guardian ad litem to Fanny & Sally Etheridge, commissioners for the division are Joseph Alexander, Matthew Brickhouse, Henry Gibson, George Alexander & Enoch Hassell with Charles McClees as surveyor.

There are also several documents relating to recovery of a debt from the estate of Silas Etheridge by Abraham Baum. The debt was $250 incurred on 2 Dec 1811, some of which was paid back over the years.

Transcriber's Notes:

Tyrrell County marriage bonds show the marriage of John Alexander to Sally Etheridge on 17 Jan 1828, Enoch Hassell security.

The 1817 will of Asa Etheridge states that his daughter, Sally Etheridge, was the wife of Silas Etheridge.

Silas Etheridge was appointed administrator of the estate of Betsey Etheridge in 1822.

The 1833 petition lists Ephraim Mann as owning an interest in the negroes of Silas Etheridge and July Ann Etheridge is not listed as owning an interest. Could it be that July Ann became the wife of Ephraim Mann? In any case, the 1834 petition does not list her as an heir, so she must have died.
