March 9, 1792
In the name of God Amen.
I Godfrey Gray of the county of Tyrell and state of North Carolina am sick and weak in body but of perfect mind
and memory; knowing it is appointed for all men to die do make and ordain this my last will and testament that is to say, I
give and recomend my soul into the hands of God that gave it and my body to be decently buried at the discretion of my
executors hereafter mentioned, and as for what worldly estate it hath pleased God to bless me with I do give devise and
dispose of in the following manner.
First I give and bequeath unto my son in law Enoch Leary one heifer yearling to him and his heirs forever -
Item I give and bequeath unto my son in law Zepheniah Davis one shilling sterling to him and his heirs forever -
Item I give and bequeath unto my beloved daughter Esther Gray one feather bed to her and her heirs forever -
Item I give and bequeath unto my beloved daughter Penelope Gray one feather bed to her and her heirs forever -
Item I give and bequeath unto my beloved daughter Winnefred Gray one feather bed to her and her heirs forever -
Item I give and bequeath unto my beloved son Enoch Gray one young horse named Linton to him and his heirs forever -
Item I give and bequeath unto my son Joshua Gray the plantation whereon I now live to him and his heirs forever -
Item Lend unto my beloved wife Resinah Gray all the remainder of my estate during her life, and after her death to be equally divided between four of my children to wit Esther, Penelope, Winnefred and Enoch Gray
I do nominate and appoint Thomas Stubbs son of John Stubbs decd my executor & my beloved wife Resignah Gray executrix to this my last will and testament and revoking and disannulling all others whereunto I have sett my hand & seal ninth day March 1792 - -

(Tyrrell County marriage records indicate that Enoch Leary married Gilley Gray with bond dated 27 Apr 1790 and Zephaniah Davis married Zenah Gray with bond dated 7 Feb 1786.)

Personally appeared in court William Mackey & made oath on the Holy Evangelist of almighty God, that he saw &
heard Godfrey Gray above named, sign, seal, publish, pronounce and declare the above instrument of writing to
be his last will & testament & at that time he was of sound disposing mind & memory & at the same time he saw
John Gray a subscribing witness sign his name thereunto & further saith not -
