Dated 21 September 1800
Know all men by these presents that I John Hall of the city of Philada Being in perfect Health, Body & sound mind & about to take a Journey to Georgia doth now constitute & appoint Peter Canway of Reading my true and Lawful attorney & to trans(cut off) all and every kind of business in my name in (cut off) same manner as if I was present and doth further (In case of my Death) constitute & appoint him (cut off) Executor Jointly with Doctor Benjamin Rush I (cut off) I place the most implicit confidence & do expect (cut off) will in case of my dissolution act for the best. I first do recommend & patronage my son Baynard & educate him as He may think proper that He s(cut off) receive for my son Baynard one half in value (cut off) all my wearing apparel & also the one half of his mothers clothes also my gold watch & his mothers also all the plate 7 also the proceeds of one half my British claim in the hands of Ben M. Mar(cut off) also one moiety of tract of land in N. Carolina containing 22400 acres also one moriety of all Pennsylvania Lands that A W. Dapheny may (cut off)
nurse & supported out my Estate, this I do full Bequeath to my son Baynard further I do bequeath to a Boy named John Wyatt the remainder of (cut off) wearing apparel also the other moriety of the 22400 acres of Land in No Carolina also the one forth of British claim & also one fourth of my Pennsylvania Lands further I do bequeath to a Little Girl ca(cut off) Harriatt Hawkins in the care of Wm Scott (cut off) of my British Claim & the remaining one fourth of my Pennsylvania Lands I bequeath my bed & bedding (cut off) so to Peter Conway it is my wish that the reminder of my Lands & all my debts be appropriated in discharging my debts & after this is done I wish the residue to be equally divided Between Baynard Hall John Wyatt & Harriatt Hawkins.
Further I do bequeath the other half of my deceased wifes cloths to Mrs. Conway wife of Peter Conway and my niece Elizabeth Hall.
Further as this will was made Just as I was Leaving the City & without form (notwithstanding) it expresses my intentions I beg & request my Executors will as nearly as possible act accordingly & not be regulated by Interference of Law opinion or otherwise.
Lastly I recommend to my God my immortal part in when I hope for forgiveness & Eternal happiness hereafter I witness hereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this 21st day of September 1800.

Then personally appeared Sarah E. Evans Charles Evans & Barbara Norland the witnesses to the foregoing will & an their solmen affiration did declare Y say that they saw & heard John Hall the Testator sign seal publish and declare the same as & for his last will & Testament and that at the doing thereof he was of sound mind memory & understanding to the best of their Knowledge & belief.
Caram. J. Wampole Dep Reg- I John Hall now of the city of Philadelphia do make this codicil to my last will and Testament that is to day. I do hereby nominate and appoint Richard Hall John (Hall Marshal) and Richard Rush to be Executors of my said Last will in conjunction with my friend Doctor Benjamin Rush and Peter Conway named and appointed in my said
Last Will. In witness whereof I have to this codicil annexed to my said Last will set my hand and seal this 26th day of January in the year one thousand eight hundred and one. J. Hall (seal) Signed sealed Published and delivered by the said John Hall as a codicil to his last will and testament in the presence of us.
Chas Evans Then personally appeared Chas Evans Esther Gastsill & Sarah E Evans three of the witnesses to the foregoing codicil and on their solemn affirmation did declare & say that they saw & heard John Hall the Testator sign seal publish and declare the same as & for a codicil to his last will Y Testament & that at the doing thereof he was of sound mind & memory to the best of their knowledge and belief.

Wampole Dep Reg I Joseph H Klemmer Register of wills and ex-officio Clerk of the orphans Court for the city and county of Philadelphia in the commonwealth of Pennsylvania do hereby certify the foregoing to be a full and complete copy of the last will and Testament and codicil thereof John Hall deceased, together with the probate thereof upon which Letters Testamentary were granted unto B. Rush and P. Canway on the 30th day of January A D 1801 and Richard Hall on the 2nd day of February A D 1801 as the same remains on file and of record in this office. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and official seal at Philadelphia the date above. Jos. H. Klemmer Register of will and ex-officio Clerk of the orphans Court (seal) I William N. Ashman presiding Judge of the orphans court of Philadelphia county do certify that the foregoing certificate and attestation made by Joseph H Klemmer Esq Register of wills and ex-officio Clerk of said orphans court where name is thereto subscribed and seal of his office affixed are in due form. and made by the proper officer. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 22nd day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and six [1906]
W N. Ashman Judge L. S. I Joseph H. Klemmer Esq Register of will and ex-officio Clerk of the orphan's court of Philadelphia county so certify that the Honorable William N. Ashman by whom the foregoing attestation was made and who has thereunto subscribed his name was at the time of making thereof and still is presiding Judge of the orphans court of Philadelphia County duly commissioned and sworn to all whose acts as such full faith and credit are and ought to be given as will in court of Judication as elsewhere. In Testimony Whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the seal of the said court this 22nd day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and six (1906) Jos H. Klemmer Register of wills and ex-officio clerk of the orphans court (seal) A D Ward being duly sworn doth say that he is the attorney for the University of North Carolina in the matter of an escheat of certain lands formerly belonging to John Hall of Philadelphia Pa. and that he is informed and believes that said John Hall at the time of his death owned land which is now situated in said county and that said university of North Carolina is interested in said land and that said John Hall on the 21st day of September 1800 duly executed his will and on the 26th day of January 1801 duly executed a codicil thereto, duly certified and exemplified copies of said will and codicil and this probate being hereto attached. Wherefor affiant and the said university hereby apply to the court that said exemplified copies of said will and codicil may be allowed filed and recorded in said county in the same manner as if the original and not copie had been produced proved and allowed before such clerk. Henderson A paper writing purporting to a duly expe(cut off)fied copy of the last will and Testament of John Hall deceased of Philadelphia Pa dated 21st day of September 1800 and a paper writing purporting to be a duly exemplified copy of a codicil to the last will and Testament of said John Hall deceased dated the 25th day of January 1801 are exhibited before me for probate in open court by A. D Ward the Attorney for the university of North Carolina claimant to an escheat under said will of said John Hall and it is hereupon proved by the affidavit of said A. D. Ward Attorney for the university of North Carolina that said John Hall at the time of his death owned real estate in said state and county and owned at the time of his death and now owns land situated in said state and county. It is also considered by the court and adjudged that said John Hall was at the time of his death as citizens of the state of Pennsylvania and that his said will and codicil thereto were duly proven and allowed in the state of Pennsylvania answering to laws thereof and it is also considered and adjudged that said will and codicil hereto have been duly certified and authenticated by the clerk of the court in which such will has been proven and allowed and by the proper officers under this official seals and it is further considered by the court and adjudged that said will and codicil thereto were executed according to the laws of the state for the devise of real estate which said facts affirmatively appear in the certificate probate and exemplification of said will. It is thereupon a the certificates attached to said will and an the Affidavit of said A. D. Ward Attorney and on the foregoing facts considered by the court ordered and adjudged that said certified and exemplified copies of said will and codicil and every part thereof are the last will and Testament of said John Hall and that they be allowed, filed and recorded in the same manner as if the original and not the copies had been produced proved and allowed before me. Said copies of said last will and testament and codicil and the probates and the exemplifications thereof and the said affidavit of said A. D. Ward are hereto attached. The same are allowed this 26 day of November A D. 1906 Eight 23 P. M. G. L. Liverman
