Tyrrell County Court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions
January Session 1815
Ordered that Silas Hassell & Ann Hassell have jointly the administration of the estate of John Hassell deceased & has given bond in the sum of three thousand dollars Isaac Hassell & Enoch Hassell securities.
Ordered that Silas Hassell & Ann Hassell administrators on the estate of John Hassell deceased sell the perishable estate of said deceased & make return to the next court.
Ordered that Jesse Alexander Solomon Hassell Esqr. & Wiliam Clough lay off to Ann Hassell widdow of John Hassell deceased a years provision out of the estate of said deceased & make return to next term.
April Session 1815
An inventory of the estate of John Hassell deceased was returned into court by the administrator at the same time a true and account of sales of said deceased was returned into court by the said administrator, to amount of $401.38.
October Session 1816
An inventory of the surplus of the estate of John Hassell deceased was returned on oath by Silus Hassell the administrator amounting to 23 dollars in notes & filed.
Ordered that Solomon Hassel Esqr. Enoch Hassell and Richd. Davis audite & settle the estate of John Hassell with Silus Hassell his administrator & make return to next term.
January Session 1817
The audited accounts of Jno. Hassell decased was returned into court by Silas Hassell administrator of said deceased.

Hassell, John, 1815
Bond dated 9 Jan 1815 in the amount of three thousand dollars appointing Silus Hassell & Ann Hassell administrator and
administratrix of the estate of Petition October term 1836 by Nancy (otherwise calledAnn) Hassell who says that since her husband died she has resided
with her children and heirs at law until recently, never having had her dower layed off beause she has never been disturbed in her possession.
She is now seventy years old and one of the heirs at law is threatening to disturb her possession and turn her out from the mansion house
of her late husband. She is therefore compelled to resort to the court for relief and represents that her husband John Hassell
died seized and possessed of the following tracts of land in which she is entitled to dower: viz. one piece totalling 158 acres adjoining
Edward Sample & Sally Mann; 50 acres adjoining Russell Armstrong; and 100 acres adjoining James Cooper. She further
states that the heirs at law are Bailey Hassell, Naomi Alexander & Nancy Hassell. She requests an order to the sheriff to lay
off her dower.
