In the name of God, Amen. I, Amillian Hassell of the County of Williamson and state of Tennessee, calling to mind the uncertainty of this mortal life and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die and being in perfect mind and memory, I do make and ordain this my last will and Testament. And as touching my worldly estate which it hath pleased God to bless me with I do dispose of in the following manner and form. Item, I give to my daughter, Amillian Hassell two beds and furniture, one cow and calf, 1 trunk, one wheel and cards, I give to my daughter Affa Hassell, I give to my daughter Elizabeth Dowdy one dollar. I give to my daughter Meriah Alexander one dollar. And the balance of my estate I give to my three sons and daughter to be equally divided between them, Joseph Hassell, John Hassell, James Hassell and Amillian Hassell this third day of November Eighteen hundred and twenty four.

January Term 1825.

The last will and Testament of Amillian Hassell, deceased, is published in open court and the execution thereof proven thus, Benjamin Leigh, a subscribing witness thereto….

Ordered that said will be recorded, and the said Amillian Hassell having failed to nominate and appoint an executor to said last will and Testament, and Joseph Dowdy having made application to this Court that he may be admitted to administer on said estate with the will annexed having given bond of one thousand dollars conditioned for the faithful administrations of said estate and execution of said last will and Testament with Moses E. Cator and Ephriam Brown his securities and having been duly sworn.

Ordered that he have letters of Administration with the Will annexed accordingly.

April Session 1825

Ordered that Enoch Hassell be appointed administrator of Pamelia Hassell who entered into bond and gave Simeon Brickhouse & John Thorogood as securities. Bonds filed.

July Session 1826

Ordered that Matthew Brickhouse, Henry Alexander & Edmd. Alexander be appointed to settle the estate of Amelia Hassell deceased with the administrator.

October Session 1826

Ordered that Matthew Brickhouse of Wm. Richd. Howett & Henry Alexander be appointed to audite & settle the accounts between the estate of Amelia Hassell & her administrator.

January Session 1827

Ordered that Matthew Brickhouse of Wm. Richd. Howett & Henry Alexander be reappointed to audite & settle the accounts between the estate of Amelia Hassell & her administrator.

July Session 1827

Ordered that Jos. Halsey, Matthew Brickhouse & Rich. Howett be appointed to audite & settle the estate of Amelia Hassell deceased with the administrator and make report to the next term.

Front: To sheriff of Tyrrel County … summons Enock Hassell, admr. of Amelia Hassell dec'd to appear before the court the 4th Monday in October next to answer unto Ephraim Mann of a Plea of Covenants broken & c to his damage & c six hundred dollars. 4th Monday of July 1825.

Document 2: Subpoena

Front: To sheriff of Tyrrel County … commanded to take the bodies of Ephraim Mann & Samuel Leigh … safely keep … have them before … the Court … on the fourth Monday in October next… Enoch Hassell, administrator of Amelia Hassell of a plea that they render to him the sum of one hundred sixty two dollars fifty cents which sum they unjustly detain to his damage fifty pounds currency… 4th Monday of July 1825.
