Hassell, John A., 1836
Bond dated 23 Jan 1837 in the amount of $2,000 appointing Soloman Hassell administrator of the estate of Jno. W. Hassell deceased, Jeremiah Weskett & Dempsy S. Godfrey securities.
Petition January Term 1837 by Solomon Hassell who was appointed administrator of the estate of John Hassell deceased at this term. He shows that the estate of his intestate does not have sufficient funds to pay the debts. He prays an order to sell the perishable estate.
Petition January Term 1837 by Milly Ann Hassell who states that her late husband, John Hassell, died intestate in December 1836 seized and possessed of 100 acres joining Thomas Lewis, Enoch Ensley and others. She prays dower in said land be set off to her.
Petition January Term 1837 by Milly Hassell who states that her late husband, John Hassell, died intestate and administration on his estate was granted at the present term to Solomon Hassell. She prays the laying off of a years provisions to her and family.
Laying off of the years allowance of Amelia Hassell, widow of John A. Hassell deceased, on 15 Feb 1837 out of the estate of the said John A. Hassell by Samuel Rogers, Henry Alexander & D. S. Godfrey.
Laying off of the dower of Amelia Hassell in the lands of her deceased husband, John A. Hassell, on 17 Feb 1837 by Richard Devenport, George W. Devenport, Silas Devenport, Matthias Owens, Holloway Armstrong, Franklin Armstrong, Thomas Lewis, David Clayton, Samuel Rogers, Joab Norman, Thomas B. Myres & Henderson Sutton with Morris W. Canady as surveyor. Tract was 107 acres lying near Scuppernong River and 36 acres including the dwelling and out houses was set off to Amelia Hassell.
Bond dated 23 Jul 1839 in the amount of $4,000 appointing Richard D. Hassell guardian to Henry E. Lewis Hassell, orphan of John Hassell deceased, Dempsey S. Godfrey & Samuel S. Simmons securities.
Petition October Term 1841 of Thomas Spruill and wife, Milly Ann, and of Henry E. Hassell, an infant of tender years, by his guardian Richard D. Hassell who show that they are tenants in common of a negro slave named Joe. Petitioner Thomas in right of his wife, the said Milly Ann, are entitled to 1/3rd of said negro and petitioner Henry E. is entitled to 2/3rds. Petitioners state that it would be in their interest to have a division of said negro but since that is not possible they request a sale.
Report to the court on 27 Dec 1841 that agreeable to a petition filed at October Term 1841 by Thomas Spruill and wife and Henry E. Hassell by his guardian to sell negro boy Joe belonging to the estate of John A. Hassell deceased to make distribution among the heirs at law, said negro was sold at public auction on 27 Dec 1841 to Thomas B. Myers for $380.
Bond dated 27 Apr 1846 in the amount of $5,000 appointing Thomas L. Hassell guardian to Henry E. Hassell orphan of John A. Hassell deceased, Jos. Halsey & Chas McClees securities.
