dated October Term 1797
Petition of John Tarkington son of Joseph & Ester his wife humbly show that John Hassell son of John who was the father of your petitioner Esther died some time about the month of February 1766 interstate. being . of a considerable personal estate. leaving 5 children: Joseph, John, Issac, Rachel and the petitioner Esther. .. that the administration was granted to John Tarkington who took into his posseession all the estate of the deceased of value.. about 150 lbs. And also should have made distribution....( indicating that Ester did not receive her share of the distribution.)

Plea. of John Tarkington of the bill of complaint of John Tarkington son of Joseph and his wife Ester....that he is not the administrator of John Hassell son of John father of the Comp. Ester. ... Neither was ever qualified as administrator ...and he .informed ... that Joseph (torn) and Ben Hassell were the Administrators. signed John Tarkinton

John Tarkington and wife vs. The John Tarkington Adm. of John Hassell dec...... The said Compliantants receive the sum of thirty pounts their distribution that of the Ester of her fathers estate with interest from one year after the death of John Hassell deducting six ears for the war..

March Session 1766
Read the petition of Joseph Hassell and Benjamin Hassell praying administration of the estate of John Hassell deceased &c. granted; he enters John Hardison Esqr. & Francis Ward security in the sum of five hundred pound proclamation money ordered that the clerk certify the same to the Secretary of the Province that letters of administration issue accordingly on motion it is ordered that the administrators sell the perishable estate of John Hassell deceased and make return to our next court.
Personally appeared Joseph Hassell and Benjamin Hassell and qualified administrators of John Hassell deceased by taking the oath of an executor &c.
Personally appeared Joseph Hassell and Benjamin Hassell & exhibited an inventory of the goods and chattels of John Hassell deceased and proved the same on their oathes ordered filed; & on motion it was ordered that they sell the perishable estate and make return to our next court.
June Session 1766
Read the petition of John Tarkington and Joshua Tarkngton &c praying the tuision of the orphans of John Hassell deceased &c ordered granted on the condition to keep John Hassell, Rachell Hassell, Joseph Hassell, and Ester Hassell, & Isaac Hassell orphans of John Hassell with out any manner of charge or deduction of any part of estate interest or increase for or conscerning their mentainance, cloathing, or education; & they are impowered to take into their possession the estate of sd. orphans.
Peter Wynne exhibited an account of the sales of the estate of John Hassell deceased & proved the same upon his oath ordered filed.
September Session 1766
Joseph Hassell orphan of John Hassell be put and bound an apprentice to Joseph Hassell to learn the trade of a cooper.
On motion of Mr. Thomas Jones in behalf of John Tarkington &c ordered that John Hassell & Isaac Hassell be put and bound apprentice to John Tarkington they being orphans of John Hassell deceased to live with him as apprentice & to learn the trade of a cooper.
September Session 1767
Benjamin Hassell exhibited & proved an account against the estate of John Hassell deceased which was allowed by the court & ordered recorded amount 4 pounds, 16 shillings & 4 pence.
December Session 1767
On motion of Mr. John Johnston atty. in behalf of John Tarkington for leave to sell the perishable estate of the orphans of John Hassell deceased. Granted.
May Session 1768
An account of sale of the estate of John Hassell deceased was exhibited & proved by James Devenport & ordered to be filed.
May Session 1769
John Tarkington & Joshua Tarkington guardains to the orphans of John Hassell deceased exhibited their account and there appears a ballance of their account due to the orphans of sd. Hassell by accts. filed 97 pounds, 10 shillings & 9 pence ordered to be recorded and filed.
February Session 1773
Personally appeared Joshua Tarkington and John Tarkington guardains of the orphans of John Hassell deceased and {unreadable} his acct. of the estate.
August Session 1774
On motion of Thomas Jones Esqr. it is ordered that John Hassell orphan of John Hassell deceased be bound unto John Tarkington to learn the trade of a cordwainer untill he arrives at the age of twenty one years he being now sixteen years of age.
February Session 1778
Ordered that Mr. Peter Wynne be appointed guardain to John Hassell and Isaac Hassell orphans of John Hassell and gave for security John Wynn & Zebulon Tarkington in a bond of 200 pounds.
May Sesion 1778
On motion of Mr. Cumming counsellor ordered that citation issue to John Tarkington guardian of the children of John Hassell deceased to appear and produce his accounts of his transactions in the said tract to the next court.
Ordered that Hezekiah Spruill Joseph Spruill Esqrs. & Samuel Spruill audit the accounts of John Tarkington former guardian to the orphans of John Hassell and make report to next court.
November Session 1778
John Tarkinton Esqr. appeared in open court & exhibited his accounts as guardain to the orphans of John Hassell deceased and there appears a ballance due Joseph Hassell of 2 pounds, 9 shillings & 4 pence and a ballance due John Hassell one farthing likewsise a ballance due to Isaac Hassell - one farthing - a ballance due Easter Hassell 27 pounds & 9 pence with interest from the 27th day of May 1778.
July Session 1779
Ordered that Mr. Peter Wynne sell the whole of the books belonging to the estate of John Hassell deceased and make returns to next court.
Mr. Peter Wynne guardian to the orphans of John Hassell deceased exhibited his guardian accts. on oath in open court and there appears a ballance in favor of Isaac Hassell one of said orphans the sum of 25 pounds, 16 shillings & 6 pence.

April Session 1785
Ordered that Col. Joseph Spruill Col John Warrington and Col. Hezekiah Spruill be appointed auditors to audit the accounts of Isaac Hassell deceased son of John deceased now in the hands of John Wynne & Robert Wynne executors of Peter Wynne deceased who was guardian to the said Isaac Hassell deceased.
July Session 1785
Produced in court an account settled between the executors of Peter Wynne deceased and the orphans of John Hassell deceased and there appears a balance due said deceased orphans of 8 pounds & 1 1/2 pence ordered to be filed.
