In the name of God amen: I Jese Senr. of the State of North Carolina and County of Tyrrle Blacksmith being infirm in body but of perfect mind and memory do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in order following that is to say I give and recommend soul into the hands of Almighty God that gave it me & my body I recomd to the earth to be decently intered at the discretion of my executors hereafter named and as touching such worldly estate which it hath pleased God to bless me with I will and bequeath in the following manner and form ---

Imprimise - I give and bequeath unto my grand daughter Amelia Hatfield daughter and heir of my son Miles Hatfield one silver dollar to her & her heirs forever.

Item - I give and bequea unto my daughter Esther Brinkley one small trunk covered with leather and all that is therein, one black silk bonnett and band box and one chints gound to her & her heirs forever.

Item - I give and bequeath unto my son William Hatfield two silver dollars to him his heirs forever.

Item - I give and bequeath unto my son John Hatfield two silver dollars to him one small gun to him and his heirs forever.

Item - I give and bequeath unto my daughter Anne Parsons one feather bed and furniture to her and her heirs forever ---

I give and bequeath unto my grandson Jesse Durants Hatfield son of Jesse Hatfield Jur. Decd. Twenty acres of juniper swamp be the same more or less in Washington County lying over Bulls Bay adjoining Normans old patent and Lambs patent beginning at a white oak the corner of Lambs and Norman patent to him his heirs and assigns forever provided nevertheless that if my grand son Jesse Durant Hatfield shoud depart this life without ishew lawfully begotten of his body then and in that case I give the aforesaid twenty acres of Juniper swamp to be sold and equally divided between my children namely Easter Brinkley and William Hatfield John Hatfield and Anne Parsons to them their heirs and assigns forever ---

Item - I give and bequeath unto my son Jesse Durant Hatfield two negroes Viz: Abram and Lydia to him his heirs and assigns forever -- Also one large red chest one blue ditto one feather bed and furniture with a white tick and all the remaining part of my property of evert sort and kind of nature whatsoever to him his heirs and assigns forever provided nevertheless that if my grandson Jesse Durran Hatfield should depart this life without ishew lawfully begotten of his body then and in that case I give and bequeath all the property aforesaid in the above case of my Will to my grand children Viz: William Hatfield daughter Hetty John Hatfields son Washington Ase Parsons son Jesse Hatfield to them their heirs and assigns forever ---

Its farther my will and desire that my grand son Jesse D. Hatfield be committed to the care of my executors hereafter named to be educated at their discretion and then to be bound to some good trade and if his mother Fanny Bateman should take him the said Jesse D. Hatfield out of the possession of my executors then and that case I give all the property above mentioned to my grand children Viz: William Hatfields daughter Hetty John Hatfields Washington and Asa Parsons son Jesse Hatfield to them their heirs and assigns forever ---

Item - I give and bequeath to my grand child son Jesse D. Hatfield the one small vessell that William Hatfield is now building for me sixteen tons to him and heirs forever -- Otherwise a bond I hold against said William Hatfield for the building of said vessel but if my grandson should depart this life with ishew lawful begotten of his body then and in that case I give and bequeath the vessell aforesaid unto my children Viz: Wm Hatfields daughter Hetty John Hatfields son Washington and Asa Parsons son Jesse Hatfield to be equally divided between them and theirs forever, the twenty acres of Juniper Swamp I give to my grand son Jesse D. Hatfield in the sixth claus of my will wherein I mentioned that if my grand son should depart this life without ishue I give to my children Viz: Easter Brinkley Wm. Hatfield John Hatfield Anne Parsons, I hereby disannul and revoke that part of the heirs so far as mentioned an equal division between my four children and in the above mentioned juniper swamp I give to my son William to him and his heirs forever provided my grand son should depart this life without ishue lawfull begotten of his body ---

Item - I hereby make and ordain my son William Hatfield and my friend John Swain my whole and sole executor to this my last Will and Testament and I do hereby utterly disallow and revoke all manner of Wills Legacies and Testament by me made declareing this and no other to be my last Will and Testament in Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal theis 15th day of October 1804.

October Session 1804

The last will and testament of Jesse Hatfield Senr. deceased was proved in open court by Phillip Hunnings.

William Hatfield returned the inventory of the estate of Jesse Hatfield Senr. deceased on oath filed.

William Hatfield quallified executor to the last will and testament of Jesse Hatfield Senr. deceased.

January Session 1805

Mr. John Swain came into open court and quallified as an executor to the last will and testament of Jesse Hatfield Senr.

October Session 1805

The inventory of property delivered by Jesse Hatfield to his son William Hatfield was proved in court by the oath Jno. Swain and ordered registere.

The bond given by William Hatfield to Jesse Hatfield Senr. for the building a vessel was proved in court by the oath of John Swain ordered registered.

Ordered that the executors of Jesse Hatfield deceased have leave to sell two negroes namely Abram and Lynda agreeable to act of assembly in that case and make return to next court.

January Session 1806

The executors of Jesse Hatfield Senr. deceased return in court an account of sales of the negroes belonging to said estate to the amount of 73 pounds & 6 shillings returned by John Swain.

Ordered that the former order for dividing the lands of Jesse Hatfield deceased among the representatives be renewed and that Jesse Spruill Isaac Norman William Spruill Frederick Davenport and John Davenport be appointed commissioners to go on the premises with Joseph Ansley Esqr. Surveyor of the County and divide the above land agreeable to law between William Hatfield John Hatfield and the heirs of Myles Hatfield deeased and make returns to next court.

April Session 1806

Joseph Ansley Esqr. Surveyor of the county returned in court the division of the lands of Jesse Hatfield deceased between William Hatfield John Hatfield and the heirs of Myles Hatfield deceased he also returned a bill of cost for the above division to the amount of 20 pounds & 13 shillings which was allowe by the court.

October Sesion 1806

Ordered that Robert Wynne Moses E. Cator and James Hoskins Esquires be appointed to audite the accounts of the estate of Jesse Hatfield and his executors or a majority of them and make return to next court.

January Session 1807

Ordered that Robert Wynne James Hoskins and M. E. Cator Esquires be appointed to audite the accounts of Jesse Hatfield deceased and his executors.

July Session 1807

Ordered that James Hoskins Robert Wynne and Moses E. Cator be appointed to audite the estate of Jesse Hatfield Senr. and make return to next court.

November Session 1808

Ordered that James Hoskins Robert Wynne and Elijah Warrington Esqrs. be appointed to audite the accounts of Jesse Hatfield Senr. deceased and make returns to next court or a majority of them.

February Session 1809

William Hatfield returned in court the audited accounts of the estate of jesse Hatfield deceased filed.

Petition to July Term 1805 by William Hatfield John Hatfield and Elizabeth Hatfield guardian of Milley Hatfield stating that Jesse Hatfield, father of the petitioners, died in 1804 seized of a tract of land and swamp that, by a former contract, was to be divided among the petitioners and requesting that it be so divided.

Petition to July Term 1805 by William Hatfield and John Swain, executors of Jesse Hatfield Senior stating that he died in 1804 leaving some personal property that is not sufficient to settle the debts of the estate. They request an order to sell two of the negroes belonging to the estate, Abram & Lindy to satisfy the debts.

Division of the land of Jesse Hatfield Senr. on 26 April 1806 between William Hatfield, John Hatfield and the heirs of Miles Hatfield with 62 1/2 acres going to the heirs of Miles Hatfield, 60 1/2 acres going to John Hatfield and 123 acres to William Hatfield.

Numerous documents relating to a suit between Robert Armistead vs. the executors of Jesse Hatfield. One shows that Sally Hatfield is the wife of John Hatfield. Other suits as well.
