In The Name of God amen: I Thomas Hawkins of ye precint of Tyrrell in Albemarl County in ye province of North Carolina being Sick and weak in body but of sound mind and porport memory praise be to almighty God for ye same but calling to remembrance the uncertainty of This Transitory Life & knowing That it is appointed for all flesh once to Die do make and appoint This to be my Last will and Testament In manner and form following ----------
First and principally I recommend my Soul into The hands of almighty God Who Gave it hoping through ye merits of Jesus Christ my blessed Saviour and Redeemor to receive full pardon for all my Sins here committed & at ye Generall Resurrection to receive a Glorious Resurrection and as for What worldly Goods it pleased almighty God to lend me I disposses of as followeth
Secondly I Do Commit my body to ye Earth from where it was to be buried in a Christian Like manner at ye Discression of my Executors hereafter to be named.
Thirdly it is my will and Desire That my plantation over ye Chappel Swamp with all ye Land and Impertonance Thereunto belonging which I purchased of my brother James Hawkins be sold at publick vandue to ye Highest bidder by Elizabeth my wife and ye Same Lawfully and farily execute and Done and a Deed Transfer from Elizabeth my now wife Executed Duly The Title to had and Done. I do hereby Declare to be Good and Valid in ye Law to all Interests and purposes to ye purchasor and his heirs for Ever and The moneys arising Thereform I do give and bequeath to my Three Daughters Mary Elizabeth and Sarah and my wife Elizabeths Eldest Daughter Elizabeth To be Equally Divided between Them four.
Fourthly all ye rest of my Lands and Tenements I do give and bequeath to my son Thomas Hawkins and to his heirs for Ever and also my two Guns.
Fifthly I give to my four Children Mary Thomas Elizabeth and Sarah Hawkins one mare fold Each of Them as my mare brings them to ye Eldest to be served first to ye youngest.
Sixthly I give one Cow and Calf to my Daughter Sarah forever for a breeding Stock both ye Cow and Increase and as for any Cattle or hogs That hath been marked or Set apart for any of my Children I do Declare Them to be Theirs.
Seventhly and Lastly I do make and appoint Elizabeth my wife to be my hole and Sole Executrix of This my Last Will and Testament to Whome I give and bequeath al ye rest of my personall Estate hereby revoking & Disallowing and make void all former will or wills by me made & this only to be my Last will and Testament. Signed Sealed published pronounced and Declared by The said Thomas Hawkins to be his Last will and Testament.
