Tyrrell County Court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions
July Session 1818
Ordered that Col. Richard Howett have leave of administration on the estate of William Howett deceased and entered into bond in the sum of two thousand pounds Henry Alexander & Alen Howett securitys.
October Session 1818
Inventories & accounts of sales of the estates of Mary Banks, Joseph Crane, William Howett, of the orphans of Corbin Jones deceased & Joshua Powers deceased was returned proved in open court & ordered to be filed.
Report of the dower in the lands of William Howett deceased was returned and ordered to be filed.
Richard Howett was appointed guardian to the orphans of William Howett deceased and entered into bond with approved securities, ordered that he receive the estate of the said orphans into his possession and account for the same as the law directs.
January Session 1819
An account of sales of a negro boy belonging to the estate of Wm. Howett was returned by Richd. Howett administrator amount $252 & filed.
January Session 1820
Account of sales of negro Ann the property of Wm. Howett deceased was returned in open court by Richd. Howett the administrator & filed - amount $90.00.
October Session 1820
Ordered that Edmund Alexander, Enock Hassell and Matthew Brickhouse Senr. be appointed to settle and audite the accounts of William Howett deceased also the same persons settle & audite the accounts of Sarah Howett deceased.
January Session 1821
Ordered that Edmund Alexander, Enock Hassell and Matthew Brickhouse Senr. be reappointed to audite & settle the estate of Sarah & Wm. Howett deceased with her administrator and make report to next term. {The "& Wm." was interlined.}
Ordered that Richd. Howett guardian to Patsy & Elizabeth Howett be allowed one hundred and eight dollars for boarding & clothing the said Patsy & Elizabeth one year as per account allowed by the court & filed.
April Session 1821
Ordered that Edmund Alexander, Enock Hassell and Matthew Brickhouse be reappointed to audite & settle the estates of Sarah Howett & William Howett deceased with Richd. Howett administrator and make report to next term.
July Session 1821
Report of auditors on the estate of William Howett & Sarah Howett deceased was returned in open court with a ballance due the estate of William Howett $75.56 also due the estate of Sarah Howett of $75 ? both accounts being anexed together & filed.
April Session 1822
The following persons appeared in open court & renewed their guardian bonds as the law requires viz. - Frederick Alexander guardian to Brittanna Dillen Frederick Alexander guardian to Samuel Dillen Hannah Davenport guardian to Fredrick Davenport Nancy Spruill guardian to Nathan Spruills orphans John Roughton guardian Phillis Roughtons children John Alexander Major guardian to Joseph & Polly Melson John Alexander Major guardian Michael Alexander Richard Howett guardian to Elizabeth Howett Richard Howett guardian to Martha Howett Frederick Alexander guardian to Zach. Dillen & Edmund Alexander guardian to Jesse Alexanders orphans all of whom entered into bonds with approved security & their several bonds filed.
Account sales of the rent of lands & hire of negroes belonging to the estate of William Howett deceased was returned to court on oath by Richd. Howett the administrator & filed.
Ordered that Richard Howett guardian to Patsey & Elizabeth Howett orphans of William Howett deceased be allowed the sum of $76 dollars for board & clothing said orphans for the year 1821 as per account allowed & filed.
April Session 1823
Ordered that Richard Howett Col. guardian to Patsey & Elizabeth Howett orphans of William Howett deceased be allowed the sum of $113.25 for board clothing etc. of said orphans as per account allowed by the court & filed.
Account sales of the rent of land & hire of negroes belonging to the estate of William Howett deceased for 1822 & 1823 was returned on oath by Col. Richd. Howett & filed.
April Session 1824
Richard Howett the guardian of the heirs of William Howett deceased returned in open court his account with said heirs ending 28th Apl. 1824 with a balance due the guardian of forty three dollars and 2/100 which account was ordered to be filed.
January Session 1825
Ordered that Enoch Hassell, Matthew Brickhouse and Benjamin Brickhouse be appointed commissioners to audite and settle the estate of William Howett deceased with his administrator Richd. Howett.
April Session 1825
Ordered that Enoc Hassell, Matthew Brickhouse and Ben Brickhouse be appointed commissioners to audite and settle the estate of Wm. Howett deceased with his administrator Richd. Howett and make report to the next term.
April Session 1827
Richard Howett guardian to heirs of Wm. Howett returned account of the hire of negros & land & his account versus them leaving a balance due heirs of $5.05.
April Session 1829
Richard Howett guardian returned the account of hire of the negroes of the estate of Wm. Howett deceased.
April Session 1830
Richard Howett guardian to William Howett's heirs returned an account with the estate for the year 1829.
April Session 1831
Ordered that Enoch Hassell, Mathew Brickhouse & Jos. Halsey audite the estate of Wm. Howett deceased with Richard Howett the guardian & report to next term.
July Session 1831
The commissioners appointed to audit the account of Wm. Howett deceased heirs with Richard Howett the guardian was returned into open court balance due guardian $622.36.

Bond dated 13 Jul 1818 in the amount of two thousand pounds appointing Richard Howett administrator of the estate of William Howett deceased, Henry Alexander & Allen Howett securities.
Petition July Term 1818 by Sally Howett widow and relict of Richard Howett deceased. She says that William Howett died intestate on or about 10 July 1818 seized and possessed of a tract of land of about 250 acres joining Allen Howett, Arther Davis & Thomas Meekins and no provision has been made for your petitioner, the widow of said William. She requests the court order that her dower in said lands be layed off to her. {This is an original document that says Richard Howett in one place that is obviously in error.}
Petition July Term 1818 by Sally Howett widow of William Howett deceased. She says that William Howett died intestate on or about 10 July 1818. She requests that her year's provisions be layed off out of the estate.
Court order July term that the Sheriff summon a lawful jury to go on the premises of William Howett deceased and set off to Sally Howett widow of said deceased her dower of lands.
Laying off of the dower of Sally Howett on 19 Sep 1818 in the lands of her husband William Howett. She received 77 acres that included the dwelling house and all the outhouses. Parcel joins Allen Howett, Arther Davis, William Brickhouse, Meekins and Elisha Styron. Sheriff was Henry Alexander and the jury of disinterested freeholders included Archibald Etheridge, James Godwin, Arther Davis, Edmund Alexander, Peter Brickhouse, Samuel Brickhouse, Matthew Brickhouse, Caleb Brickhouse, Simeon Rhoads, James Etheridge, John Bryant & Thos. Meekins.
Petition October Term 1818 by Richard Howett administrator of the estate of William Howett deceased who states that he has sold the perishable property of said deceased and discarged debts of about $500 with the proceeds and that he is informed there is still about $250 in debts to be paid. He prays an order to sell negro boy Isaac in order to have sufficient funds to meet the debts.

Summons issued 25 Oct 1828 for Richard Howett, appointed guardian to Martha Howett orphan of William Howett deceased at the April Term 1822 to appear at the next term of court and renew his guardian bond and exhibit his accounts or the court will appoint another guardian.
Bond dated 27 Jan 1829 in the amount of fifteen hundred dollars appointing Richard Howett guardian of Patsey & Elizabeth Howett minor orphans, Enoch Hassell & Matthew Brickhouse securities.
Petition January Term 1832 by Richard Howett administrator of William Howett deceased stating that on his death there was not sufficient money or perishable property to pay the debts of said deceased. He prays an order to sell negroes Lane & Deadaing (?).
Audited account of Richard Howett administrator of William Howett deceased dated 15 Jul 1834 signed by Jos. Halsey showing a balance due the estate of $16.83. Mentions negro boys Peter & Squire. Also mentions sales of Sarah Howett's estate in April 1819.
Bond dated 28 Jul 1835 in the amount of eight hundred dollars appointing Thomas H. Alexander guardian of Patsy Snell orphan of William Howett deceased, John McClees & Warren Alexander securities.
