In the name of God Amen this 11th day of April 1808 I John Liverman of the county of Tyrrell and state of North Carolina farmer being in low state of health of boddey and of perfect sound mind and memorey but calling to mind the mortallety of my boddey and it is appointe for all men onest to die do make and ordain this to bee my last will and testimoney, and first of all I recomend my sole in the hands of allmitey God that gave it and as tuching such worteletey goods as it hath plesed God to bless me with I demise and dispose of in the following manner and form -

Item 1st. I leave to bee sold out of my estate my negro man James and one still one yong mare by the naim of Blase to settle all my lawfull debts and to pay of my leagesses allso one piece or parcel of my out land which pece will lay to my executors descresion for the use above mentioned

Item 2. I leave unto my sone Hezekiah Liverman five pounds to bee raised out of the afforesaid sails to bee paid him at the discretion of my executors -

Item 3. I leave to my sone Josiah Liverman forty pounds to be raised as above and payable at the discretion of my executors -

Item 4. I leave unto my sone Gethro Liverman two pounds to be raised and paid as above mentioned -

Item 5. I leave unto my sone John Liverman hairs to say Morning Liverman Merium Liverman Delaney Liverman Timothy Liverman Selectial Liverman twenty five pounds to be equally devided amongst them and thair hairs and to be raised as afforesaid and paid at the descretion of my exrs

Item 6. I leave unto my beloved wife Nancy Liverman during her natural life or widowhood all the residue of my estate boath real and personal after the above leagices is paid out -

Item 7. I leave unto my suns and daughters Mary Allford Nancey Liverman Tina Liverman Elisabeth Spencer Sharlottey Liverman Miles Liverman Adiment Liverman Abenia Liverman Isaiah Liverman Fredrick Liverman and William Liverman all my estate real and personal after my wife Nancey Liverman decas or widowhood to be equally devided between them and thair hairs and should aney of the afforesaid persons die without hair then thare part to bee equally devided between the afforesaid persons ? -

The intent and meanning is in as ample a manner as the learned in the law could devise and I hereby constitute and appoint my beloved wife Nancy Liverman and John A. Patrick my sole executrix and executor to this my last will and testament and I hereby revoke disanul and disalow all other former wills whatsoever and acnoledge this and no other to be my last will and testamoney

Tyrrell County Court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions


January Session 1815

Ordered that Levi Bateman and Thomas Leigh Esqrs. take the private examination of Charlotte Hammond daughter of Jno. Liverman deceased with regard to the sale of her rite of lands of her deceased father.

July Session 1815

Ordered that Jeremiah Wynn Esqr. have leave of administration on the estate of Jno. Liverman Senr. deceased and has entered into bond in the sum of eight thousand dollars and gives for security Charles Hoskins and Jno. A. Patrick security.

Ordered that Jeremiah Wynn administrator of Jno. Liverman deceased have leave to sell the perishable estate of said deceased and make returns to next court.

October Session 1815

Nancy Liverman widow of Jno. Liverman Senr. deceased rite of dower in land was returned into court by David Clayton ordered filed.

Jeremiah Wynn administrator of Jno. Liverman deceased returned into court an inventory and account of sales of said deceased estate ordred to be recorded.

October Session 1817

The audited account of John Liverman deceased was returned to court & filed.

Ordered that Jeremiah Wynne Esqr. administrator of the estate of John Liverman Senr. deceased sell a negroe woman & child at six months credit in order to make an equal division amongst the heirs & make due return.

January Session 1818

Jeremiah Wynne administrator returns into court upon oath an account of sales of two negroes belonging to John Liverman deceased whose administrator he is.

April Session 1818

Richard Brickhouse was appointed guardian to Derector Liverman orphan of John Liverman deceased who entered into bonds with Spencer Midyett & Richd. Lucas securities ordered that he receive the estate of said orphans & account for the same as the law directs.

Liverman, John Sr., 1814


Bond dated 10 Jul 1815 in the amount of four thousand pounds appointing Jeremiah Wynne administrator of the estate of John Liverman deceased, Charles Hoskins & John A. Patrick securities.

Petition of Nancy Liverman widow of John Liverman deceased at the July Term 1815 to have her year's allowance layed off. She states that John Liverman died intestate about 14 Mar 1814 leaving a cosiderable estate and Jeremiah Wynne was appointed to administer the estate. She also states that she has five in her family.

Petition of Nancy Liverman at the July Term 1815 stating that her husband John Liverman died intestate about 14 Mar 1814 leaving the following heirs at law viz. Hezekiah Liverman now dead and leaving the following heirs at law William, Jenny, {blank space} John now dead leaving the following heirs at law Mourning Mariam Delany Delecta (?) Timothy all of age except Delecta (?) & Timothy, Joseph of lawful age, Mary now the wife of John Alfred, Ann Liverman of lawful age who has sold her right to the real & personal estate of her said father John Liverman to Jeremiah Wynne, Ziney Spencer now the wife of Nathan Spencer, Charlotte who is of lawful age and the wife of Jas. Hammond both of whom have sold their right of real & personal property of said John Liverman to Jas. Hoskins, Myles Liverman of lawful age, Adamant Liverman, Abeniah Liverman, Isaiah Frederick Wm. Liverman infants. Petitioner prays that a jury be summoned to lay off and allot to your petitioner dower in her husband John Liverman's lands and also allot to your petitioner her third part of her deceased husband's personal property.

Laying off of the year's allowance of Nancy Liverman widow of John Liverman on 11 Aug 1815 by John A. Patrick, Wm. Meekins, Charles Hoskins & Jechonius Neel.

Laying off of the dower of Nancy Liverman widow of Jno. Liverman deceased on 30 Sep 1815. She receives the plantation whereon she now lives containing 55 acres joining the Camp Branch, Dempsey Liverman, the heirs of Jno. Liverman Junr. and John A. Patrick.

Execution issued 28 May 1816 against an undivided share of land late the property of Jno. Liverman Senr. deceased which remains unsold for want of bidders the property of Adamant Liverman which was levied for a fine and court costs.

Bond dated 3 Jul 1821 in the amount of 100 pounds appointing Adamant Liverman guardian of William Liverman orphan of John Liverman deceased, Enock Hassel & David Cahoon securities.

Summons issued 20 Aug 1823 and 25 Oct 1823 for Adamant Liverman who was appointed guardian to William Liverman at July Term 1821 to appear at the next court term and show cause why he has not appeared at court and exhibited his guardian acount.

There are also many documents pertaining to suits for and against the estate for recovery of debt that are of no apparent genealogical value.

Liverman, John, 1819


Bond dated 13 Apr 1819 in the amount of two hundred dollars appointing Richard Brickhouse guardian of Derector Liverman orphan of Jno. Liverman deceased, Spencer Midyett & Richd. Lucas securities.


Transcriber's Notes:
There is no record of proof or probate of the above will. Information from minutes and estate papers indicates that John Liverman died in March 1814 but the estate was not administered until July 1815. Indications are that the will was probably contested but no records survive to confirm that conjecture.
Based on the apparent ages of his children it is likely that Nancy was not the first wife of John Liverman.
Hezekiah Liverman died circa 1817. See court minutes and estate records.
