Tyrrell County Court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions
July Session 1798
Ordered that Martin R. Byrd Robert Cushing Esqr. and Christopher Duckett be appointed to divide the negroes of William Mackey deceased amongst the representatives of said deceased and make return to next court.
Ordered that Richard Downing be appointed guardian to Samuel Mackey orphan of William Mackey deceased and give bond and security in the amount of 50 pounds Robert Cushing Esqr. & Thomas Walker securities.
October Session 1798
Arthur Turner returns in open court an account against Wm. Mackey orphan of Wm. Mackey deceased amounting to 35 pounds & 10 shillings allowed by the court & filed.
April Session 1799
Ordered that William Mackey orphan of William Mackey deceased be bound to Asa Hardison till he arrives to lawful age to learn the art & mistrey of a blacksmith the said master is to learn said apprentis to read wright & sypher as far as the rule of three.
October Session 1799
Ordered that Richard Downing be appointed guardian to Mary Mackey William Mackey & Thomas Mackey orphans of William Mackey deceased and give bond and security in 1,000 pounds each Thomas Fagan & Evan Skinner securities.
