In the name of God amen: I Jos. Meekins of the County of Tyrrell & state of North Carolina being in a low state of health of body, but of sound mind and understanding, calling to mind the mortality of my body and that it is appointed for all mankind once to die I do make & ordain this my last will & testament ---
St - My soul to the hands of God who gave it me and my body to the earth from whence it came, to be buried in a Christian like manner and as touching worldy estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me with I dispose of it in the following manner Viz:
Item 1st - I leave as much of my property to be sold at the descretion of my excutors as will pay all my honerable debts, to be sold at six months credit.
Item 2d - Give the remaining part of my estate unto my beloved wife Jerusha Meekins to raise her children then if there is any left, when she is dead and gone then to be equally amongst my children. Hereby nominate and appoint my son William and my wife Jerusha as Executors to this my last will & testament. August 18th 1833 -

The last will and Testament of Jos. Meekins was exhibited in open court and proved by the oath of Wm Meekins the subscribing witness thereto who swore that he saw Bartholomew Swindle sign the same as concurring testimony - at the same time came Jerusha Meekins and William Meekins Junr. and qualified as executors thereto.

Account of sale of the estate of Jos. Meekins was returned on oath in open court.
