In the name of God amen: I Elizabeth Merchant of the State of North Carolina and County of Tyrrell being in a low state of health but sound mind and memory - calling to mind the shortness of life, the certainty of death and of judgment to come have thought proper to make and ordain this my last will and testament --

First - I recommend my soul into the hands of a God who first gave it me and my body to be buried according to the discretion of my executor hereafter named - as to such worldly goods it has pleased God to bless me with I give and bequeath of in the manner and form following.


I give and bequeath my land both here and up the river to my beloved brother William Merchant also my bead and furniture - As to the balance of my estate my whole will and desire is that it should be sold and after all the expenses are out of it the balance to be equally divided between my brother William Merchant and my sister Mary McKinny and my sister Angelico Padrick to them and their heirs forever - And I hereby nominate & appoint my brother William Merchant executor to this my last will and testament - this the 30th day of November 1828.

This will was exhibited in open court & execution of the same proved by the oath of Wm. Weskett who swore he saw her sign the same and also that he saw Jos. Evans sign as concurring testimony.
