Dated 3 Jan 1839

In the name of God Amen: I Henry Norman of Tyrrell County, being of sound & perfect mind & memory, Blessed be God, do this the 3d day of January, in the year of Lord, one thousand eight hundred, & thirty nine, make and publish this my last will & testament in manner & form as follows. Viz.

First - I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Nancy Norman, one negro girl named Eliza, and her increase, one feather bed and furniture, one mare & single Gig & harness, one cow and calf the choice of my stock, six hogs the choice of my herd, six chairs, one falling leaf table, one chest, one pot, & one skillet, two sheep the choice of the flock, one linen wheel, one loom & warping bars, three stocks of bees, her choice: six plates, six cups & saucers, one case of knives & forks, one dish, on plough & harness, two hoes and one axe, I also leave to my wife the Mulberry Island tract of land, adjoining John T. Wynn and others, & adjoining the public road & c. Boy David to be hired out two years & my wife of have the money.

2d - I give and bequeath to the heirs of Joshua Swain, Viz. one piece of swamp adjoining Riders Creek, above the level bridge.

3d - I leave my beloved daughter Joanna Hufton one hundred acres of land which she has a deed for that is not registered. Also one negro girl, names Annis to be equally divided among the heirs of Joshua Swain.

4th - I give & bequeath, to my beloved son William Norman, one negro boy named Moses, one copper still, one gun & apparatus.

5th - I give & bequeath to all the daughters of Sidney Cooper one negro woman named Kate, to be equally divided when they come to the age of twenty one years & her increase: My daughter Sidney Cooper to have the labor of the woman until the children is of age.

6th - I give & bequeath to my grandsons Henry Cooper & Elijah Cooper, one piece of land containing one hundred acres on the Levels adjoining the lands of the heirs of Joshua Swain, & William Norman, to be equally divided between them.

7th - I give & bequeath to the heirs of Eliza Alexander one piece of land whereon she now lives, beginning at a white oak a corner tree of Abagail Swains, running up the branch to the maple, a corner tree of the heirs of Joshua Swain, Thence up the branch, to the Cranberry Swamp, thence round the various courses of the swamp eastwardly & southwardly, round to Abagails Swains other corner, thence along her line to her first station. David to be hired out two years after my death, then to be equally divided amongst all the heirs begotten by the body of Eliza Alexander the said Eliza Alexander, to have the labor of the boy David, until the children comes of age.

8th - I give my grandson John J. Norman, all my right of land on the Levels, which I bought of the heirs of Joseph McKimmey, all the balance of my land & other property I leave to be sold at a credit of six months. My honest debts to be paid & the balance to be equally divided among my lawful heirs. And I hereby make & ordain my beloved son William Norman, & my worthy friend Charles McClees Exrs. to this my last will & testament. In witness whereof I I hereunto set my hand and seal to this my last will & testament day & year above written -. Signed, Sealed, published & declared by Henry Norman, the Testator as his last will & Testament, in the presence of us at the time of signing & sealing

July Term 1857.

Then is the due and formal execution of this will, proved to have been made had and done by Henry Norman the Testator, the same is admitted to probate, as a may pass real & personal estate and it is ordered to be recorded. See minutes.
