January Session 1819

Administration on the estate of Robt. Pledger deceased was committed to Samuel Spruill who entered into bond in the sum of fifteen hundred pounds John Alexander & Abram Pledger securities ordered that letters of administration issue thereon & that he proceed to sell the perishable estate of said deceased agreeable to law & make return to next term.

Ordered that Selby Patrick Esqr. Henry Alexander & Lemuel Basnight & Federick Alexander lay off to Ann B. Pledger widow of Robt. Pledger Esqr. deceased one years provision out of the estate of said deceased agreeable to act of assembly & make return to next term.

April Session 1819

An account sales & inventory of the estate of Robt. J. Pledger was returned to court on oath & filed.

The years provision of Ann Pledger widow of Robert J. Pleger was returned in open court & filed.

Henry Alexander returned in open court the dower in the lands of Robt. Pledger deceased laid off to his widow Nancy Pledger & filed.

January Session 1821

Account sales of the negroes belonging to the estate of Robert J. Pledger deceased was returned to court on oath by Saml. Spruill Esqr. & filed.

Ordered that Henry Alexander Selby Patrick and Thomas Leigh be appointed to audite & settle the estate of Robert J. Pledger deceased & make report to next term.

April Session 1821

Ordered that Henry Alexander Selby Patrick and Thomas Leigh be reappointed to audite & settle the estate of Robert J. Pledger deceased with his administrator and make report to next term.

July Session 1821

Ordered that Henry Alexander Thomas Leigh & John Thoroughgood be reappointed to audite & settle the estate of Robert J. Pledger deceased and make report to next term.

January Session 1822

Ordered that Thomas Leigh Henry Alexander & John Thoroughgood be appointed to audite & settle the accounts of Robert J. Pledger deceased with Samuel Spruill his administrator & make report to the next term.

April Session 1822

Samuel Spruill administrator to Robert J. Pledger deceased returned in open court on oath an inventory of notes he found in possession of the said Robert J. Pledger deceased to amount of $1032.68 1/2 cents & filed.

Report of auditors on the estate of Robert J. Pledger deceased was returned in open court & appears a ballance due Saml. Spruill administrator of $188.48 1/2 account filed.

October Session 1822

Samuel Spruill administrator of the estate Robert J. Pledger returned on oath in open court the account sails of negro boy Blunt the property of said deceased amounting to $256 on order filed.

April Session 1823

Ordered that Henry Alexander Ephraim Mann & John Thoroughgood be reappointed to reaudite & settle the accounts between the estate of Robert J. Pledger deceased & his administrator and make report to the next term.

July Session 1825

Ordered that Edmund Alexander & Fredrick Davenport take the private examinations of Sally Melson wife of James Melson, Charlotte Midyett wife of Lewis Midyett and Lois Owens wife of Abel Owens the said Sally, Charlotte & Lois being heirs at law of Robert J. Pledger deceased relative to their free consent in signing a deed of sale of lands to Abraham Pledger & make report to the next term.

Pledger, Robert J., 1819


Bond dated 12 Jan 1819 in the amount of fifteen hundred dollars appointing Samuel Spruill administrator of the estate Robt. J. Pledger deceased, John Alexander & Abram Pledger securities.

Laying off of her year's provisions to Ann B. Pledger widow of Robert J. Pledger Esqr. from his estate on 28 Jan 1819 by Silby Patrick, Lemuel Basnight, Frederick Alexander & Henry Alexander.

Laying off of the dower of Nancy Pledger widow of Robert J. Pledger in the lands of said deceased on 27 Mar 1819 by Jesse Alexander, Brittian Hoskins, Joseph Tarkenton, Richard Spruill, Spencer Midyett, Jno. Thoroughgood, Spencer Ludford, Jno. Alexander Capt., Hozias Roughton, Fredk. Davenport, Josiah Jarman & Jos. Norcom, 12 disinterested freeholders. She recieved 1/3 of the 100 acre plantation of the deceased including the dwelling house and out houses. The land joins Joseph McClees and James Pledger.

Petition October Term 1820 by Samuel Spruill administrator of Robert J. Pledger stating that he has sold all the perishable part of said estate (negroes excepted) on 28 Dec 1819 to the amount of $346.16 1/2 and has paid debts & commissions amounting to $439.37 leaving a balance of $93.20 1/2 in favor of himself. There are now outstanding debts of the estate of $351.83 and upward. To meet these debts he requests a court order to sell negroe Hanah and her three children Jenny, Herbert and an infant belonging to the estate.

Petition on the first Monday after the fourth Monday in March 1822 by Samuel Spruill administrator of Robert J. Pledger stating that he has sold the perishable part of the estate of his intestate and the amount of sales including notes and inventory is $1626.66 1/2 and the amount of debts against said estate is $1815.15 leaving a surplus of debts of $188.49 due by the said estate. There are no assets left to satisfy this deficit other than a negro boy named Blount who your petitioner prays leave to sell.

There are also several documents in this file relating to recovery of debts against the estate that are of no apparent genealogical value.
