In the name of God amen: I Asa Prichett of the County of Tyrrell & State of North Carolina being weak of body, but of sound mind and perfect memory, thank be to God. Calling to mind the uncertainty of life and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make & ordain this my last Will and Testament, revoking all others. In the first place I resign my soul into the hands God who gave it & my body to be buried in a decent Christian like manner and as touching what little earthly goods it has pleased God to bless me with it is my will and desire, that it be disposed of in the following manner To wit.

Item - I lend unto my beloved wife Scynthia Prichett during her natural life all my lands, negros, stock of all kinds goods & chattles of every discription & after raising a sufficient sum to from the same to pay all my just debts ---

Item - I give and bequeath to my son Thos. Prichett at the death of his mother all that part of the plantation & lands whereon I now live lying to the south & eastward of Bassnights canal with the exceptions of one half of the fishery at the creek, to him & his heirs and assigns forever.-

Item - I give unto my son Ephraim M. Prichett at the death of his mother, all that part of the land whereon I now live on the North & West side of Bassnights Canal together with one half of the fishing privilege to the other side given to Thos. to him his heirs and assigns forever.-

Item - I give and bequeath to my four daughters, Nancy, Clark, Caroline & Kezia Prichett to be equally divided amongst them, at the death of their mother, all the negros which I may die sezd & possd of to them & their heirs forever ---

Item - I give and bequeath to my six children, Thos. Nancy Clarky, Caroline Kizia and Ephraim, one bead & furniture each beginning with the youngest have the 1st choice & so on through all at the death of their mother, to them & their heirs forever ---

Item - I give and bequeath to my son Ephraim Prichett at the death of his mother, all the residue of my estate, after satisfying my just debts and all former gifts and legacies, in this instrument to him & his heirs forever ---

I now hereby nominate and appoint my two friends Ephm Mann & Hez. G. Spruill excutors to this my last Will and Testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 27 day of August 1832.

This will was exhibited in open court and proved by the oath of Jos. Melson, who swore at the time of signing the same the testator was of sound & disposing mind & memory.

Pritchet, Asa, 1836


Bond dated 26 Jan 1836 in the amount of one thousand dollars appointing Selby Patrick administrator with the will annexed of Asa Pritchet deceased, Hezekiah G. Spruill & Joseph Caroon securities.

Petition April Term 1836 by Selby Patrick who qualified at the present term of this court as administrator with the will annexed of Asa Pritchard deceased and that the monies on hand are insufficient to discharge the debts due by his estate and that to do so the sale of a negro woman will be necessary. Petitioner prays an order for the sale.

Petition April Term 1838 by Cynthia Pritchet, widow of Asa Pritchet, who dissented from the will of her deceased husband at the current term of court. No sufficient provision has been made for her immediate support and that of her family and prays the court to direct the alloment of her year's allowance from the estate of her deceased husband.
