In the name of God amen I Abram J. Swain of Tyrrel County
N.C. being of sound mind & perfict memory blessed be God do the 10th day of
February in the year of our Lord 1849 make and publish this my last Will &
Testament in manner following that is to say-
1st- I give & bequeath to my son Jacob Swain one feather bed &
furniture.
2nd- I give & bequeath to my daughter Patsey West one ewe &
lamb-
3rd- I give & bequeath to my daughter Mahala Brickhouse one cow
& calf & one ewe & lamb-
4th- I give and bequeath to my son Abram Swaim one fether bed &
furniture one cow & calf & one ewe & lamb-
5th- I give & bequeath to my daughter Nancy Swain one fether bed
& furniture, one cow & calf, one ewe & lamb
6th- I give & bequeath to my son Joshua S. Swain one fether bed
& furniture & one cow & calf & one ewe & lamb-
7th- I give & bequeath unto my will beloved wife all the rest of my
chattel property together with my horse to her full use during her lifetime or
widowhood- I leave the mare which was my son Johnathons to be sold I
leave my plantation to the use of my wife her life time & after her death it
is my will that my land should be equally divided between my sons Abram
Swain & Joshua S. Swain & if either of them should die
without a lawful heir to return to the other one I give my beloved wife a note
which I have in my possession against W. W. Walker giving her full Power
to collect the same I do hereby empower my son Abram to pay all my debts.
It is my will that after my wifes death that all of my chattel property should
be equally divided among my lawful heirs & I hereby make & ordain my
well beloved wife & my belove son Abram Executor & executrix of
this my last Will & Testament in witness whereof I the said A. J.
Swain have to this my last Will & Testament set my hand and seal the day
& year above written.
Signed sealed published & declared by the said Abram J. Swain the
testator as his last Will & Testament in the presence of us who were present
at the time of singing & sealing there of.

N. Carolina Then was this paper writing exhibited in open court by Abram Swain the
executor therein name & upon the oath of William Reynolds one of the
subscribing witnesses thereto was proved as the last Will & Testament of
Abram J. Swain and he further swares that the said A. J. Swain was
at the time of signing the same was of sound disposing mind & memory &
that he signed the same without compulsion of any person. It is therefore
admitted to probate in said court as the last Will & Testament of A. J.
Swain decd. & that the same be recorded-
