In the name of God Amen: I Paul Thoroughgood ot the State of North Carolina and County of Tyrrell being of sound mind and memory blessed be God, do this day make and ordain this to be my last will and testament & my body to the ground to be buried in a decent manner by my executors hereafter named; and what wordly goods it hath pleased Good to bless me with in this life I will and dispose of in the following manner an form.
Then I give and bequeath to my son Jno. Thoroughgood a tract of land known by the name of Cow Ridge containing one hundred and thirteen acres as will appear by two deeds from Selby Patrick and wife to me, also one black woman named Mahaly and her increase which was in his possession before his death to do and dispose of agreeable to his last will and testament. -
Then I give and bequeath to my son Amos Thoroughgood the land and plantation that I now live on containing about one hundred and thirty acres also two pattents on the New lands containing sixty acres and also twenty five acres of Cypress swamp as will appear by deed from Ann Hassell to me under these restrictions that my son dies leaving no lawful issue then the above gift to be divided amongst my other three children or their lawful representative, and also one black mare named Tyrrell and also my right in a black girl named Patsey which is in his possession --- Aso my right in a five hundred pattent that is on the east side of Great Alligator River up Swain Creek to him and his heirs forever -
I lend Betsey Ann Howet my grand daughter a negro girl named Maranda also a boy named Hardy to her and her heirs lawfully begotten of her body.
Then I lend to my grand daughter Ann Mariah Howett a negro woman named Huldah, also a boy named Jepper to her and her heirs lawfully begotten of her body forever ---
Then my will and desire is that my black boy Samuel be hired out yearly by my executors hereafter named at their discretion for a fair price to a resonable marster and the money arising therefrom after apying them a reasonable compensation for their trouble to be paid to my daughter Betsey Jackson during the term of her natural life and at her death if she leave lawful issue. then for him the said Lemul to such issue to it and its lawful representives on the side of the mother for ever and for lack of such issue to be equally divided between my other three children or their lawful representives ---
I then give and bequeath to my grand daughter Ann S. Thoroughgood my black boy Harmon and if she dies before she has lawful issue then to the lawful issue on the side of the father and for lack of such issue to be divided amongst my children ---
I give and bequeath to my grand son Jno. Thoroughgood one hundred dollars to be paid in notes by my executors out of the residue of my estate which will be sold to be applied to the use of his schooling and if he should die before gets old enough to recive education then to his next oldest brother that may be living -
Then all the rest of my estate both real and personal to be sold by my executor at six months credit and the money arising from such sale the one fourth part to be equally divided between Jno. Thoroughgood heirs lawfully begotten of his body, the one fourth part to Amos Thoroughgood and his heirs forever & the one fourth part to my daughter Ann Howets heirs, to be equally divided between them for the purpose of raising their young negroes - the other fourth part to be paid to my daughter Betsey Jackson by my executor as she needs it for her support. -
Lastly I hereby appoint my son Amos Thoroughgood and Richard Howet my lawful executors of this my last will and testament this. In witness whereof I Sign Seal and pronounce this my last will and testament this the 3 day of Jany 1829.

Promissory note dated 24 Dec 1835 in which Maxey Davis & John Tweedy promise to pay Amos Thoroughgood executor of Paul Thoroughgood $146.50 six months later for value received. Witnessed by Abel Roughton.
There are a number of summons, warrants and executions that are generated by attempts to recover the above debt.
