Whidbee, Joseph, 1783


Note that is partly faded and unreadable concerning the hire of negro Big Jinne belonging to the estates of O. Williams & J. Whidbee.

Writ dated 8 Apr 1785 and issued 25 May 1785 for the Sheriff to make of the goods and chattels of Joseph Whidbee deceased the sum of L 59:11:9 which lately Abraham Howett, administrator of Richard Sanderson deceased, recovered against Thomas Hoskins, administrator of Joseph Whidbee deceased, for damages, costs and charges and have the monies at court on the first Monday in July next. Levied on the manor plantation but not sold for want of time.

Writ dated 7 Jul 1785 and issued 2 Aug 1785 directing the Sheriff to cause to be made L 59:15:6 out of the goods & chattels, lands & tenements of Joseph Whidbee deceased whereof Thomas Hoskins, executor of the deceased, is convicted. Sheriff was to have the monies at court on the first Monday in July, but failed to do so. Sheriff now to have the monies at court on the first Monday of October to there render them to Abraham Howett administrator for his debt, damages and costs.

Writ dated 5 Oct 1785 for the Sheriff to take the body of Thomas Hoskins, executor of Joseph Whidbee deceased, and have him at court the first Monday in January next, then and there to answer the plea of Coll. Hezekiah Spruill's plea of trespass on the case to his damage 60 pounds.

Receipt dated 2 Nov 1785 for L 57:6:4 from William Howett Deputy Sheriff of Tyrrell County in full of the judgement, attorney fees & witnesses attending in the suit of Abraham Howett, administrator of Richard Sanderson deceased against Thomas Hoskins, administrator of Joseph Whidbee deceased. Signed by Abraham Howett.

Writ dated 5 Jul 1787 and issued 15 Aug 1787 for Hezekiah Spruill to take the examination of Joseph Alexander regarding anything he may know about a cause now depending in the court between Thomas Hoskins, executor of Joseph Whidbee deceased, plaintiff, and Rachel Anderson, administratrix of James Anderson deceased, defendant, and have the results at the courthouse by the first Monday in October next. The deposition reveals that the case is about payment of rent for use of part of the plantation of Joseph Whidbee deceased and that James Anderson was still alive around the end of April or beginning of May in 1786.

Judgement dated 27 Oct 1791 and issued 29 Nov 1791 against the goods and chattels of Joseph Whidbee deceased in the hands of his executor, Thomas Hoskins for 18 pounds, one shilling and 5/4 pence with interest from 6 Jul 1786 which McAdams & Company recently recovered from them for their debt and damage, plus 4 pounds, 5 shillings and 7 pence for costs and charges.

Judgement dated 27 Jan 1792 and issued 13 Mar 1792 against the goods and chattels of Joseph Whidbee deceased in the hands of his executor, Thomas Hoskins for 18 pounds, one shilling and 5/4 pence with interest from 6 Jul 1786 which McAdams & Company recently recovered from them for their debt and damage, plus 4 pounds, 9 shillings and 4 pence for costs and charges.
