Document 1: Application for Letters of Administration
Tyrrell County:- In the Probate Court. James R. Wright being sworn doth say, that Francis Wright, late
of said County, is dead, without leaving any Will or Testament; and that the
said James R. Wright is the proper person entitled to Letters of
Administration on the estate of the said Francis Wright decd.
James R. Wright, Francis Ann Ward, wife of Asa Ward, Sarah and
Nancy Wright all of full age and residing in said County of Tyrrell are
the said heirs at law of the said Francis Wright, decd
are entitled as heirs and distributees thereof.

Your petition represents, that the personal estate of his intestator consists
of small ? of property, that the amounts sold would be ? to take notes for, and
that under the present laws it is difficult to get good ? to notes, and in his
opinion it would be to the interest of said estate to sell for cash, your
petition therefore ? your Honorable Court make a decree allowing him to sell
said personal property for cash – and as in duty bound he will ?? (signed)

James R Wright The petition of James R. Wright admn, represents:
I - That he was duly appointed admn of Francis Wright on the 15 day of
Oct 1872
II - That from the best information your petitioner has been able to obtain,
that there are outstanding debts to the amt of three hundred dollars
III - That the value of the personal estate of said intestate is about thirty
dollars which has been applied to the ? of the debts recd of administration.
IV - That at the death of the intestater, she was s? inf? of the following
tract of land, adjoining the lands of Joshua Twidy & Thos Twidy and
others, containing about 56 acres & worth about one hundred dollars
V - That Asa Ward & wife Francis Ward are of age, Jno.
T. Sawyer & wife Nancy S. are of age and Sarah Wright is
of full age your petition ? show? is that a sale of said land is necessary to
enable him to pay the debts of his intestator & the charges of
