Tyrrell County Court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions
August Session 1771
Ordered that Richd. Collins administrator of Joshua Worley deceased enters Thomas Leary & John Johnston and James Long security in a bond of 5,000 pounds the perishable part of the estate to be sold.
Richd. Collins exhibited an inventory of the estate of Joshua Worley deceased and proved the same on his oath ordered filed.
Joshua Worley Junr. came into court and chose Henry Downing his guardain and enters Thos. Leary and Stevens Lee his security in bond of 2,000 pounds.
On motion of Mr. William Cummings in behalf of William Worley orphan of Joshua Worley deceased the court approved Henry Downing his guardin & enters Thos. Leary and Thomas Lee security in bond of 1,000 pounds.
Richard Collins is appointed guardain of the person of Ester & Louise Worley orphans of Joshua Worley deceased and enters Thos. Learey and James Long security in the sum of one thousand pounds which was approved of by the court & acknowledged their bond accordingly which was ordered to be filed.
Ordered that Richard Collins sell the perishable estate of Joshua Worley deceased and make return to our next court.
Ordered that Benjamin Blount Edward Buncombe Stevens Lee Esquires & John Hardison or either three of them divide the estate of Joshua Worley deceased & make return of such their proceedings to our next court.
February Session 1773
Personally appeared Henry Downing and rendered his acct. of the estates of Joshua Worley and William Worley orphans of Joshua Worley deceased ordered filed and at the same time returned an inventory of the said estate.
May Session 1774 {There is a one year gap in minutes prior to this session}
Joshua Worley orphan of Joshua Worley chooses Charles Bondfield his guardian the said Bondfield entered into bond with James Long Esqr. & Mr. Thomas Leary in the sum of two thousand pounds.
James Long Esqr. is appointed guardian to William Worley orphan of Joshua Worley deceased the said James Long entered into bond with Giles Long & Jeremiah Frazer in the sum of one thousand pounds.
November Session 1774
Ordered that a summons issue to Chas. Johnston administrator of Richd. Collins who was administrator of Joshua Worley deceased to render an account of administration which Collins had on the estate of said Joshua Worley.
February Session 1775
Ordered that administration de bonis non be granted unto Charles Johnston on the estate of Joshua Worley deceased who tenders as security Joseph Hewes & Benjamin Spruill Esqr. in the sum of four hundred pounds.
Ordered that Charles Johnston be appointed guardian to Ester Worley & gives security Joseph Hewes & Benjamin Spruill Esqr. in the sum of four hundred pounds.
Ordered that Charles Johnston be appointed guardian to Lewis {Lois} Worley orphan of Joshua Worley & gives security Joseph Hewes & Benjamin Spruill Esqr. in one thousand pounds pounds.
Ordered that Robert Smith & Charles Bondfield audite the acct. as they stand stated by Richard Collins deceased admr. of the estate of Joshua Worley that it may be acertained to this court what estate unadministered will come to the hands of Charles Johnston administrator & make return to next court.
Ordered that Henry Downing late guardian of Joshua Worley orphan of Joshua Worley deceased be summoned to appear at next court & settle his accounts as guardian aforesaid.
May Session 1775
James Long Esqr. exhinited an account against William Worley orphan of Joshua Worley deceased amounting to 4 pounds & 3 shillings which is allowed.
Henry Downing exhibited in court an account with William Worley orphan of Joshua Worley deceased by which there is a ballance due the said William Worley of 12 pounds & 14 shillings.
Henry Downing exhibited into court his account with Joshua Worley orphan of Joshua Worley deceased by which there appears a ballance due the sd. Joshua Worley of 20 pounds, 14 shillings & 3 pence.
Charles Johnson administrator de bonis non of the estate of Joshua Worley deceased produced a settlement of acounts by the auditors appointed by the last court by which there appears a ballance due by the said Charles Johnston to the estate of Joshua Worley 100 pounds, 15 shillings & 8 1/2 pence.
Charles Johnston came into court & delivered & proved on oath an inventory of notes & bonds due the estate of Joshua Worley deceased.
February Session 1776
Ordered that Charles Johnson be appointed admr. of the estate of Joshua Worley & he took the oaths appointed by law for his qualification, ordered the the Secretary have notice that letters testamentary may issue James Long & Henry Downing security in the sum of two thousand pounds.
Charles Johnson came into open court & delivered and proved an inventory of the estate of Joshua Worley.
Ordered that Major James Long Mr. Downing & Coll. Lee divide the estate of Joshua Worley & make return to next court.
May Session 1776
Ordered that Charles Johnson admr. of the estate of Joshua Worley Junr. deceased sell the negroes with the perishable part of said estate & the proceeds the said Charles Johnson to divide among the heirs of said estate.
Ordered that Charles Bondfield Robert Davidson and James Anderson or any two of them audite the accounts of Charles Johnson guardian to Ester & Lewis Worley & make returns to this court.
Charles Bondfield guardian to Joshua Worley Junr. now deceased exhibited his accounts against the said Joshua Worley by which there appears a ballance due the guardian of 69 pounds, 5 shillings & 3 pence which is allowed. There appears a charge against Henry Downing former guardian of 28 pounds, 14 shillings & 3 pence which is settled in this account.
The gentlemen apointed to audite the accounts of Charles Johnson guardian of Ester & Lois Worley do report that there is a ballance due the said guardian from Ester Worley of 12 pounds & 5 shillings & from Lois Worley a ballance of 28 pounds.
May Session 1777
Charles Johnston Esqr. exhibited the accounts against Hester Worley & Lois Worley on account of Richard Collins guardain to said orphans.
January Session 1781
Peter Robertson appeared in open court and prayed the guardainship of William Worley orphan of Joshua Worley granted and gave in security Thos. Mackey Esqr.& Robert Davison in a bond of 5,000 pounds.
April Session 1785
Ordered that Jeremiah Frasier Joseph Wyatt Esqrs. be appointed to audit the accounts of Charles Johnson Esqr. administrator of Joshua Worldly Senr. deceased estate, also his accounts as guardian of Esther Worldly and Lowis Worldly orphans of said Joshua Worldly deceased.
Appeared in open court Jeremiah Frasier and Joseph Wyatt Esquires auditors appointed to audit the accounts of Charles Johnson Esqr. administrator of Joshua Worldly Senr. deceased and exhibited the accounts being duly examined find a balance of 262 pounds, 12 shillings & 3 pence due the estate of Joshua Worldly Senr. deceased - also a balance of 92 pounds, 12 shillings & 10 pence due Charles Johnson Esqr. guardian of Esther Worldly and a balance due said Charles Johnson guardian of Lowis Worldly to the amount of 109 pounds, 9 shillings & 4 1/2 pence.
