In the name of God amen: I Joseph Young of Tyrell County in the Province of North Carolina joiner being but sick & weak of body but of perfect & sound mind & memory thanks be given to Almighty God but calling to mind the uncertainty of death, & knowing that is appointed for all men once to die desire to make this my last Will & Testament in manner & form following, first & principally I recommend my soul into the hands of God who gave it, & nothing doubting but at the General Resurrection at the last day to receive the same again hoping through the merrits death and passion of my blessed Saviour Jesus Christ to have full & free pardon of all my sins & as for my body I recommend it to the Earth to be buried at the discretion of my Executors hereafter mentioned and as touching such worldly Estate as it hath pleased God to bestow on me in this life I leave & dispose of in manner & form following -

Imprimis - My will & desire is that all my just debts & funeral expenses be all satisfied & paid -

Item - I lend unto my well beloved wife Ann Young the use & occupation of my manner plantation & Land belonging unto it & all my stocks of cattle hogs horses &c and all my household goods & every other thing belonging unto me (not given) during her natural life -

Item - I give & bequeath unto my well beloved son Jesse Young & to his heirs all my carpenters & joiners tools -

Item - I give & bequeath unto well beloved grandson William Young son of my well beloved son Hezekiah Young - all my land & plantation after my wifes decease but if the said William Young should die before he arrives to the age of twenty one years then I give the said land & plantation to the next male child that my son Hezekiah Young shall have by his now wife Zilpah Young & if it should so happen that their should be never a male child from them to live to be twenty one years old - then the said land & plantation shall belong to my grand daughter Margaret Young the daughter of my son Hezekiah Young aforesaid and to her heirs forever.

Item - I give & bequeath unto my grand daughter Margaret Young daughter of Hezekiah Young one feather bed & furniture to her & her heirs forever.

Item - I give & bequeath unto my granddaughter Ann Young daughter of Hezekiah Young one feather bed & furniture to her & her heirs forever -

Item - My will & desire is that at the decease of my well beloved wife Ann Young all my household goods - stocks & every other thing & things should be equally divided between my three children Jesse Young Hezekiah Young and Elizabeth Leary to them & Thear heirs forever-

Lastly - I nominate constitute & appoint my well beloved son Jesse Young & my well beloved & trusty friend Joshua Swain Executors of this my last Will & Testament revoking all other Wills by me heretofore maid ratifying & confirming this only to be my last Will & Testament. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and fixtd my seal this 10th day of October Anno Domini 1772 -

January Session 1781

Mr. Joshua Swain appeared in open court and proved the last will and testament of Joseph Young deceased and ordered to be registered.

Joshua Swain Esqr. appeared in open court and qualified executor to the last will and testament of Joseph Young deceased and returned into open court {on} oath an inventory of the estate of Joseph Young deceased ordered to be registered.
